@scottalanmiller and @Dominica are driving from Peekskill NY to Frankfort NY to drop their girls off at their grandparents house first. Then driving here to where I am and then we will get in our van and head out. Lots of driving today!

Is Art driving from your house to Austin?
-
I'll be riding with @NetworkNerd to Austin on Sunday!
-
We will split up the driving. Art likes to drive at night I will drive during the day.

Ah ok. NY to TX is a long trip! I would not want to make it again...ever...
-
for sure would be buying plane tickets.

Ditto, maybe next year!
-
Well 1 plane ticket covers the cost of the whole trip and there are 4 adults riding down and back. So it's much cheaper to drive. And I like road trips!
-
And driving provides a lot more flexibility. Like today we managed to get moving nearly twelve hours earlier than expected and we don't need to rent a car when we arrive. And we can ship "stuff" with us, not just people.
-
Not too mention that driving lets you do "partway" trips like taking the kids to be dropped off four hours from the starting point. Flying would not have worked well with that.

The only thing that offsets that is lost productivity. It comes down to what is best for the company at that point.

exactly! If I drove down on my own time and was covered for the entire week for the conference and not just two or three days, then driving might be worthwhile for me... plus I could possibly bring another local Spicehead or two..
But if work won't allow that - but they'll pay for the flight.. flying it will be.
-
Planes actually lose a lot of productivity too. The car, we hope, will actually be good as we have a chance for the people from downstate and the people from upstate to work together for a long period of time. You should see the meeting topics that we have queued up for the trip!! This should be extremely productive.
-
We have lots of work planned for this trip so in reality we will be more productive then normal.
-
Already getting work done.
