Type 2 Virtualization on Top of Windows Server 2008 32bit
-
This is weird, but VBox says that it will run on Windows Vista and Windows 7 32bit, but that it won't run on Windows 2008 32bit. How does that work? No idea.
-
If going this route, only 32bit CentOS is an option. Far, far from ideal. But here is the link for it in case it is needed...

I was thinking older version of VMware Workstation / VMware Player, but it appears even older versions want a 64-bit CPU.

Windows 2008 does not have option to install hyperv role?

I think is the best option, and old version of Vmware Player
-
@scottalanmiller Yeah, that's weird is almost the same kernel between Vista and Server 2008. I think that requirement of that SW post is skewed. Nothing can be done right on that setup.

There is certainly no great answer there.

Is Hyper-V installed? VirtualBox has some issues with Hyper-V.
BTW: Can't he use Hyper-V?

Does Hyper-V install on 32bit?
-
Hyper-V is a type 1 hypervisor from AFTER the hardware assist era. Pretty sure it has no pure software mode.

I swear I tried this year's ago but can't find any notes on it maybe a home project at the time when I had a 32 bit Dell 2600 boat anchor lab server.

It's definitely not something that you really want to do, this is someone stuck with a business that isn't taking itself seriously and is dramatically below the home line.

@scottalanmiller not an answer to your question but...

The last time I had to do this was on a PE 2900 with Vmware and it ran 32 bits VMs and 64 linux vms on a 32 bit system.
I even had a pe 2850 booting to USB with a diskette lol
-
@dbeato wasn't there a hack to allow 32 bit VMware to load 64 bit operating systems?
-
@jt1001001 It will only work if the CPU is 64 bits but the Vmware version is 32 bits.
