Is there a way to move vm's from VMware ESXI 5.5 to usb directly from host?

What are you attempting to send them to?

Enable SSH, login, move them.

Hey good morning SAM. I'm trying to finish up migrating from VMWare completely. I have a 2 Node (about to be 3) using XenServer.
My last few VM's on VMWare need to migrated off so I can wipe that server and make it a new XS host.
I have usb 3 drives and a usb 3 card in the server I'm hoping that's faster than the 1-2 hour backup with Veeam.
-
Is there a way to save the OVA/VMDK straight from the host to USB 3? Because I guess I'm trying to find ways to avoid the long wait time. It takes about 1-2 hours per VM to backup if I use say Veeam.

His method with SSH is what does that. Plug in the USB drive, it will appear as a file system. At the BASH prompt via SSH you can just copy them using the cp command.

Ok that makes more sense sorry. I'm still novice on Linux. But that is definitely a better option. I assume I can also do that from XenServer, I've played with the CLI a little in it more so than VMWare ESXi.
Thanks guys you just saved me like 8 hours or more
Last but not least Scott, thanks for all your help for helping me get into Virtualization and mentoring me on the path! We finally have our office modernized and I can't help but to thank you and everyone at NTG!
2 newer dell servers and will repurpose the existing dell server we had for a small 3 node cluster running XenServer 7.1 and using XoA I'm probably going to need more help on XoA but I have it in a test network at home. I like VMWare ESXi but I'm putting that to the pasture XS for me

@JaredBusch Gotcha brother! I was missing the point / or command but now I see what you mean, thank you!

Hey guys my backup time dropped tremendously. It now takes about 10-20 minutes tops! Thanks you saved an entire work day for me

Just curious as to why you didn't do a P2V conversion from VMware to XS?
-
@NerdyDad because VMDK's import straight into XenServer
I remove / strip the Xen Tools from the vm, shut it off, then copy it. I import it into XenServer and use it's native tool to perform vm clean up. So far I have imported over 5 vm's with no issues!!
-
I normally wouldn't care about the machine and just take the data off and reinstall a vm/app and pull over the data but for some of the machines that wasn't worth the hassle just yet.
-
I have imported all the critical VM's over with 0 issues. I only have like 3 left that aren't that big of a deal. Then I'm wiping my VMWare Host and rebuilding it from scratch and then taking my Synology NAS and redoing it's storage.
