Assuming he's talking about WebDAV opening a file in Office 2013 or newer, direct to a URL - then my question is.. is there authentication required?
Webdav... Yes, it asked for authentication if i opened the file through an office app, but just the first time. If i opened up by double clicking the file it didn't ask for anything. I'm running 2016 Office and Win 10.

That is not how I did it. I pasted the webdav URL into windows explorer and gave it my creds. See you did a different thing. Look at me screenshot

My bad... all your screenshots didn't load.

Haven't read everything on this thread, but have one question. The OP says the problem with Dropbox is " (slow - downloading, uploadig - internet outage)."
If that's the only problem with the current solution, couldn't the answer be to improve the internet connection? That might not be the cheapest solution but I'd have thought it would be the most simple. I appreciate it might not be possible depending on the location.

Just tried it your way, failed to open. same error. Could be permission issues on my desktop. I did not change any settings that were mentioned int he NC documents.

What is stopping OP from creating a Nextcloud server and pointing to the internal IP, you guessed it internally? That should resolve any speed issues. Having a domain and SSL certification just makes the server more accessible, which is a positive. I don't see him mentioning WebDAV himself unless I missed that post.

WebDAV, etc were all ways to try to provide a different solution.

Worth checking if nothing else.

There would have to be. Unless it was just wide open.
