Did you ever try NethServer ?
-
Hi guys,
my first post here please bear with me. I'd like to know your expert feelings about my project.
It's called NethServer and our mission is making the sysadmin's life easier, building a server distro that leverages the power of Linux without the complexity
I'm eager to know your feedback and, why not, your concerns
This is our last release:

I've gotten it installed but never had time to really work with it. I'll get it downloading on the latest release right now, though. It definitely looks very interesting and much moreso now that 7 has released.
Thanks for popping in, very exciting to see NethServer here!
-
Looks like a very interesting project. Oh and based on CentOS, that will be very popular around here.
-
Latest release looks to have been January 30th. 740MB for the full download.
-
@Reid-Cooper Not just based on CentOS, we're proudly compliant with.
You can just install CentOS and put NethServer on top of it@scottalanmiller happy to hear this I will be more than happy to answer all your questions

You can just install CentOS and put NethServer on top of itThat's great. So easy to build on cloud instances in that case, too.

@Reid-Cooper Indeed! It's simply matter of a command:

This looks really cool! Is this a production release?

Yes it is. I had been following the status a few months ago. The 6 series was production but aging. This is the first production release of the 7 series.

@alefattorini You name gives a hint when I looked on your website at the "where we are" map and the enormous percentage of "where we are" being in Italy tells me that maybe you guys are in Italy?
-
I also noticed that you decided to use Owncloud for file sharing vs next cloud. Can owncloud be migrated to NextCloud?
-
-
yes @scottalanmiller our active installations (which agreed to send data to our repositories)
@IRJ it's going be part of our upgrade procedure from 6 to 7 @jospoortvliet is a great friend happy to see him here too

I'm currently based in Noto, Sicily
We have several active Italians in the community.

Is NextCloud already in 7 and the site is just out of date? Or is it a "yet to be updated feature" that is yet coming?
I'd check my own installation but the download is still underway
-
Wow! Noto is an amazing town! Very nice!

Great. You probably know already, but NextCloud is doing an AMA here tomorrow.

NethServer seems to try for the all in one solution. Much like Zentyal is doing.
One thing I'm not seeing (may just be blind at the moment) is the option to configure it as a DC etc. Doing a brief search for nethserver and domain controller turns up that it appears NethServer is designed to be the only DC in an organization.
But that it might be something that is being worked on so you can have multiple NethServers in an organization.
Is this true, you should only have a single instance of NS running in an organization as a DC?

That is its primary feature.
