It completely is, but we are avoiding the threads or posts about the incredibly insane posts.
Like who the hell would attempt to use Robocopy to replicate a VM for backup purposes..... What the literal f...[self-moderated]

Yeah.... I think one is more "oh you thought that you could avoid a best practice, here is why you should not do that, look at these people thinking that that was not a big deal..."
And this one is more "WTF FFS SMH"

Look at that GREAT advice! Lenovo AND SSD for OS! What decade are we living in?

Just people selling equipment because they are partnered with a supplier.
Nothing new, what is scary though is that the OP hasn't even begun to do his research. Has a meager 40GB of data, and believes he needs to move it to a server, and asking for recommendations..

On a budget that won't even fit the Server Standard license + CALS they'd need as well.

Wow, that guy is hamstrung by the low budget.
Sounds like a company that just wants to play at business, as Scott would say.

A hobby. Indeed it would be.

So Scott, whT do you think they should do?
From an app perspective, it seems like running the app on a desktop assuming they can't move it to Linux.

Not enough info to know what to do. We don't know if they can replace the expensive requirements with something sensible or not.
Running on a desktop isn't viable, you aren't licensed to use a desktop as a server. Chances are the fix is to replace the manager making non-viable financial decisions.

It got featured in something today that I actually looked at, and then regretted looking at it. Almost posted to it, but looked at the date before I started typing, thankfully.

The feature thing gets very confusing.

So I'm beyond trying to help with this topic, provided two links. One to Xen Orchestra's site, and the other to the post here on ML with the direct installation instructions for XO Source. And am replied with "Because it cost too much".

@DustinB3403 nearly lost my shit at "Xackup" - I don't know why but that's a hilarious name

Exactly, some hokey ass solution versus the one that is literally on the webpage for xenserver... hrm tough choices....

I smell an agenda.

Just because a solution is shown on the XS webpage doesn't make other solutions non-viable?
Remember when the VMware fanboi's used to say "all other hypervisors weren't worth a damn", had we listened, no one would be using XS.

I don't disagree that other solutions may be viable, but the solutions he was looking at doesn't meet his needs. So why consider them?
Also he doesn't have a solid understanding of what he's doing, and just throwing out random items that he wants, when in fact, all he wants is a free to use, centrally managed XS backup tool.
