HP LaserJet Pro Firmware updating
-
We noticed with our network monitor today some of our HP LaserJet Pro printers are auto updating firmware, We didn't set it to do this. Nor is there a setting on the printers to enable or disable this..
Odd. Anyone else seen it.

There is a whole thread about it. Now you cant use 3rd party toner because hp thinks it violates their IP. Or maybe you can now if that is the 'fixed' firmware.
-
I heard that they backed off on that.

That is not an auto update of network printers. And I believe that was InkJet anyway..

Only somewhat. You still have to manually download the updated firmware and install it yourself. They just turned it on automagically. Haven't had the time to go looking for the new firmware yet.

Those things are a beast. I spoke to my brother this week and he mentioned that he found his still running... he pulled it out of the trash about 8 years ago. All it needed was a paper tray.

We still have some hp laserjet 8150s they use for microprinting checks. Of course the toner is like $700 each for microprinting

Pro-tip - get rid of them ASAP
They blow carcinogenic toner particles all over your office and then you breathe that garbage in and get lung cancer.
