Are you connected via X2Go and running this from a terminal on the desktop? That error looks like you are trying to run the command via a traditional SSH connection without a display.

Im just in the terminal on Linux Mint 18

How did you connect to it?

Yes, X2Go connects using the same protocol as direct SSH, it's SSH under the hood. So you need the same username, password, server name and port as you did with SSH.

@WrCombs yup, that's a direct SSH connection and does not have a screen / display on which for the machine to present or "throw" in UNIX terms, the Firefox application. X2Go uses SSH but gives a display to the remote machine so that it can throw Firefox to you.

I'm guessing that you forgot to put in the port number?

Not in the terminal, in X2Go. There is a place to type in the port number, if you didn't type in 8022, it can't work.

Well the terminal isn't an option so don't keep trying that. You have to use X2Go to connect to the server instead to be able to do anything graphical, like have a web browser. So start with X2Go.
