It's pretty rare that I check things out from Facebook ads, but I would not say that it is never. Just rare. I find that Facebook tends to promote things that I am not interested in and so FB ads tend to be really useless for me, in most cases. Once in a while I find something new, but there is so much bad posting on FB that I tend to avoid marketing links there because I can never tell what is just an ad, is someone accidentally promoting something fake or whatever.

I barely use Facebook. So I am probably a bad respondant.

What little I use FB, I rarely look at the ads. Occasionally, I'll slow down a scroll when ads pop after a "like", but very rarely.

I use FB a lot, but mostly from my phone and mostly via Messenger which removes the ads, so I rarely am seeing them even though I'm on FB a lot of the time. I rarely open the FB web page and look at the full timeline where the ads are.

The main thing I like about Facebook Ads is the targeting. For example there might be 5 million people who have interest in saltwater fishing in Florida. Of those 5 million how many are serious fishermen? Maybe 1 million or so. I am able to target serious fishermen by targeting people that have purchased sporting goods equipment online. I know those people are at least somewhat serious.

Also never advertise anything your selling to people that are 18-24. It is just a waste of time. I have never had any luck with that demographic.

If FB offers this, no one must be taking advantage of it. nothing in my FB seems to be targeted to me at all.

It does, but I think people avoid it because purchase behavior targeting is a little more expensive, but it pays off much better in the long run since in my case people that are already buying fishing gear or much more likely to buy it again then people who never buy it.

One problem with Facebook ads is you get no unity in the interface. You are not really offered targeting like that on mobile, and you have to know where to look for it on desktop.

                        Really?

I google something and the next time I am on Facebook it's there.

                        Creepy.

Amazon frequently does this to me.

Yeah, the ads are all generic and don't seem to be based on me at all.

Okay, I just logged into FB just now to see what it would show and they were pretty targeted. One appears to be based on my location, two were totally wrong and two were obviously targeted.

That is not true. I see them on mobile all the time. They are cleverly shown as recommended pages and suggested posts.0_1470310159908_Screenshot_2016-08-04-07-25-34.png 0_1470310170558_Screenshot_2016-08-04-07-25-55.png 0_1470310175462_Screenshot_2016-08-04-07-26-10.png

I find Facebook ads to be highly targeted as well! I always see things I'm shopping for pop up on my Facebook feed soon after. I also see tons of ads from other storage vendors, which is always fun and makes me wonder:

Facebook is, in many cases, (not all!), more of a leisure activity. Does that affect how receptive you are to ads for B2B products (ahem, business storage) as opposed to B2C products (i.e. fishing pole or pair of shoes)?

I'd say yeah people would probably tend to lean more towards personal type products on facebook, but if your targeting is good you can probably find some receptive individuals.

For me the goal of Facebook ads has been to get Likes. Once you get the likes on your page, then you target actual sales. Once you get a facebook like you then have the ability to show on that person's news feed. So instead of advertising to them once you can target them multiple times. It is much easier to set a goal for likes instead of sales.

I'm always the odd man out, but I rarely find personal ads (consumer stuff) to be effective. I find business advertising much more effective.
