Newegg just added all these super expensive socket 2011 cpus...

Is that 18 cores with hyperthreading enabled? Forget 1, I want 4 in a single server box, 128 cpu threads here we come.
Sure sure 44K in just CPU's... don't forget you need a motherboard that can support those.
While you're building it, you might as well build an OBR10 out of those new 16TB SSDs from Samsung..

Don't forget 4TB of RAM to feed those cores!

Is it even possible to make a build with this? Seriously

SGI is still eaking (barely) a living doing things like this. I would be very surprised if SuperMicro didn't have some products that would run 4 of those CPUs as well.
Licensing requirements are what keeps most companies from running these types of servers, not the tech availability.
If you need that many resources to provide service to your org, why wouldn't you want to consolidate to fewer servers?

I'm sure it is if you have a few hundred thousand bucks burning a hole in your pocket.

165w of "not going to play games better than a $500 CPU"
I suppose if you've got some spare money to literally light on fire and a burning desire for a fast lab CPU - have fun

To bad that motherboard is a proprietary form factor.
-
If supermicro really wanted to boost their sales, they'd have a cart right on their website... I mean come on, how else am I supposed to build this server, order from Newegg. Pfft!

Nothing some sheet metal, drill, nut-certs and some stand offs can't fix

True, but I want my servers to be sexy.
Not something bread boarded together, especially when I'm dropping 44G on the CPU's alone.

What, you think SuperMicro doesn't sell a sexy server chassis to go with those motherboards?

@travisdh1 They might, but that wasn't my point, he wanted to use sheet metal....

Home brewed, in that an inbreeding joke?

These companies that sell these supercomputers have websites that take you back to 1999. They look terrible, no cart functionality, and no mobile site.

When you sell stuff as cool neat and awesome as supermicro does you do not need a fancy pants website.
