Continuing this from the Random Thread:-

Basically I was about to abandon XenServer for Hyper-V as I could get unitrends to work that's been backing up my ESXi Linux VMs.

As the FREE edition doesn't support XenServer I was happy to try the Full product as per this comparion I would only need the Std edition and the price an't too bad either.

Anyway when trying to add the XenServer is says not supported 😞 as per screenshot (to come later tonight or tomorrow morning)

I would certainly read that to mean that you have API-based "agentless" protection for VM's on XS.

Right so did some test this morning and found something strange (well I think it is 🙂 )
I've downloaded both trials for VMWare and XenServer and deployed to a ESXi6 server and XenServer7 but this is where it gets strange. On the ESXi deployment you only get the option to add Virtual Hosts of ESXi/VCenter & Hyper-V
            0_1467965511447_UEB -on ESXi.png
On XenServer it only allows adding of XenServer and Hyper-V
            0_1467965549482_UEB -on XenServer.png

So the question is how do you product a mixed environment?? without spending extra £££££££??

OK I've just tried adding the XenServer7 host (on the Xen deployment) and it's added it 🙂 might go install on my Dell Server and try now.

Now i'm really confused install XenServer onto my Dell server, deployed the Eval of UEB to it and went to add the XenServer and this happens:-
                  0_1467990029715_UEB on XenServer - Not support.png
Just booting my "test" machine to see what the difference is and why I could add itself to UEB??

My bad sorry people the reason I could add XenServer in the previous post was I installed XenServer 6.2 onto a PC for testing and UEB can add that and do VM level backups on that server, looks like UEB doesn't support XenServer7

So this is what I've found out so far in summary:-

Unitrends Free only supports - VMware and Hyper-V
Unitrends UEB deployed to ESXi server supports - VMware and Hyper-V
Unitrends UEB deployed to XenServer supports - XenServer and Hyper-V

Might see what Hyper-V UEB supports monday

Just remembered that Hyper-V (core) doesn't like unitrends so installing Server 2012 and will enable Hyper-V role then install unitrends see what happens.

This is so weird. Why change the code base?

This was my experience as well when trying to test Unitrends Free.

Wouldn't you have to perform an export from ESXi to a compatible file format?

I thought the backups made in ESXi were the proprietary format.

Was just hoping for restoring to another Hypervisor to give me more options.

Do you need the entire backup of the machine? You can mount the image of the backup and restore any files anywhere you want.
