That is actually a good idea. I wanted the email and name on there just so I could identify who and how the tool is being used as I rolled it out.
That is a completely normal reaction for many people that build things to be used. They want to know who is using it.
The problem is that you are fighting a long history of shitty marketing tactics.
It is possible to slightly increase trust by including a TOS or blurb that promises not to innundate us with spam / cold calls / sell our infor for using your service
I would still never use it unless desperate. Hell I avoid Starwinds? (I think) because they require email to get their free tools.
So you would avoid it, but I'm not allowed to dislike it's data mining and inaccuracy? Nice.
You are completely allowed to dislike it. In fact, I myself stated at the top of this thread, that it should not be there. The difference is that you were more than simply not nice about it.
I truly couldn't give less of a shit about whether you think I'm "nice" or not. Calls 'em like I sees 'em.

Solar Winds too, lol.
In defense of both of them, I'm only emailed about free tools from Solar Windows about once a week. I've never had a call from either of them that I didn't actually request.
I like the fact that @Buildinglit does not ask for a phone number to test his service out.. Those are easy enough to get anyway.

Ok..... be nice. I understand not liking something. State your reason and avoid posting again if you don't like it. Please don't keep pushing buttons.......;

Ok guys.. the required fields were removed in general. Just use the tool how you would like to use it. It helps us though to keep track of things by filling in that information. Ultimately I would like to put in a place where if you build your quotes here you can become a referral partner and add your information and get paid for checking addresses and building quotes in the back end. The contract / quote management is pretty sweet.
As for Rojoloco it isn't a big deal I don't mind him being blunt, but he is wrong when he thinks im just some sales puke ahole. I built this so you guys could get away from having to deal with those guys.

THANK YOU!! This could be a really useful tool for us.

On the more constructive side:
I have no idea what toggles I have clicked. some are on and some are off in this pictures, but i forgot which and there are no visible indicators. Also the view is horrible on my desktop. the little tiny map view. tons of wasted space.
Not looked on a mobile device.
-
Ya good note.. you are correct we can work on that. The system does resize for different browsers and screen resolution sizes. You are using a smaller resolution than what we would consider normal at this time for PCs... bigger resolutions it looks great, but there was a middle size with the media screens that looked a little funky which is what you are seeing and then it gets bigger again for IPAD/Tablet and Mobile phone devices.
Not sure if you can go to a higher resolution but that would help a lot. Above 1600 pixel width it really opens up and looks nice.
-
I agree with Jared, there is a ton of wasted white space.
Here is my 1080p monitor.
-
Well I am trying to save some space on the top for some ads to keep the site alive if it ever gets there where enough people use this but ya it does just look like white space now.

Aww.. Ok that makes sense.
Can you overlay the address stuff at the bottom over the map itself with the option to hide it?

he bottom over the map itself wit
You know I was thinking of doing that. We could probably float that UI over the top of it and create those hide / drag windows out of that instead. Part of the problem is this site is using a Bootstrap framework which is becoming the standard for web dev but I am not good at it at all yet and don't know the tools I am supposed to work with on it so it's difficult to make some basic edits on some things.

By the way guys we will be constantly updating this. By the way per your request we have added some of the Verizon On Net Buildings data that we have. It is just for California right now. If you follow us on any of our social media pages or blog you will see updates there so you know when we are covering more in your areas.
-
Hi Jared.. btw way the toggle highlights like you wanted were added tonight too. Thanks for that helpful idea.
-
Hi guys,
Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but many new changes implemented and thanks to some of your comments. Take a look if you have some time. We are adding fiber maps to the tool.. XO right now is the most extensive.. you can literally see all the data center buildings nationwide on their map.. there are several others as well.. we have added about a 100,000 on net buildings as well and made the tool more user friendly with sharing of search results capability in the URL.
Hope you guys like.

Nice update. I will be keeping this in mind as I pick up clients needing new internet serviuces.
