Just heard MSP say...

If you were going to exchange disks for completely different drives (model/speed/etc), they should have recommended moving the data off, destroying the volume, and completely rebuilding it.
Even for the same drives... although why would you swap out good identical drives.
I wouldn't swap out good identical drives... But if the OP really wanted faster mechanical drives, or SSDs for that matter. I don't see 7200 rpm drives vs. 10k rpm drives being an enormous leap. Now 7200 rpm vs SSD is a different story in performance (dependent on the SSDs used of course), but also a bit more expensive per GB. Nonetheless, I wouldn't be breaking a RAID intentionally without moving all the data off and just rebuilding. I don't see any other reason with how unstable you are making it.

Time for new MSP?

@scottalanmiller The only time I've traded out drives intentionally when things hadn't failed was a rock bottom budget, we had to expand the storage, and couldn't afford a new appliance right then and there. Traded out one drive at a time for larger drives (backups were taken), and eventually scaled up to about double the size. Bought a different appliance the following year and reused the old appliance as a non-critical.

I hope this isn't TekSystem's cause I'm getting ready to contract some remote work to them haha.

@Jason you're safe.

I've worked for TekSystems before. Several times over the years. Some good, some bad experiences. Definitely more on the bad side.

I originally said about them running a scam that I had to deal with in Albany, but looking through my records I cannot be 100% sure that it was them that ran the scam. So I took out the comment. But I am pretty sure that their Albany team was the one involved. I know the scam thoroughly, but because I didn't put it in my notes who ran it, I don't want to finger them now for certain.
-
Oh wait, I DID find it in my notes. Yes, Teksystems were the scammers. Do not do business with them in any way whatsoever. Avoid them like the plague. Total pieces of garbage.
-
You are aware that Teksystems is not an MSP but a staffing firm, right? The people who Teksystems sends to work for you are random people with whom they have no official association. Those aren't "Teksystems" people, just random people that they hire to work that one job for you.

I was interviewed by TekSystems a few years ago. Something seemed off so I called off the interview process.

Yeah. I had had several okay-ish dealings with them over the years on small projects so when a big one came along they were in a good position to string me along for over six months before I caught them lying and out the pieces of the scam together. I got them flustered and got their manager to admin to it on accident.
Their Rochester office wasn't too bad, but Hartford were nothing but crooks. Problem is, corporate lets the company run that way, so that is the kind of company that they are.
I would literally not let them in the door, they are not to be trusted.

There are other providers who can do work remotely

Or even on site. Teksystems doesn't do any work themselves, they just contract out to local MSPs. NTG has supplied them with many people over the years until they started scamming people. At one point nearly everyone at NTG had worked through TS at some point. I have a Teksystems backup sitting at my feet right now, it's been my backpack for over a decade.

This isn't working remotely. This is remote datacenter that the closest we have people to is 8hrs or so away. Most for Hands to rack stuff etc.
