Also I control the sound guy so I will have everything at a much lower level than normally at these things.
Control the band first
Electric drum kit
Amps off stage
In ear monitorsSilent stage, you can really control the volume, and the talent will sound miles better.
Are you footing the bill for all that non-standard, expensive gear? You have to specifically request all that stuff when you rent sound, and it all costs extra.

having a band was on request of a couple vendors. So not all think that. And not all feel the same way as you either.
But all are affected by it. The vendors requesting the bands are likely the ones sponsoring, right? It's not vendors just randomly saying "we should have bands instead of time to talk to customers" and getting a band. it's someone saying "we want to pay for a band".

Both bands do have electric drums that they do use for smaller specialized venues. So we can def do that .

Still unenjoyable for someone who doesn't like loud music but atleast there is a reason behind it.
It's basically hell for extroverts who see all these people that they want to connect to but can't. But my wife is an introvert and loves that the event has something to do that precludes any possibility of talking to people. So she attends them and enjoys the parties.
It's not that they are not fun, but they disrupt a business function, that's the biggest problem. Although now that so many people have learned to just avoid them, they work out better.

Part of planning something like this is you can't make everyone happy. But I have taken into account the need for some quiet and made sure there was space for that.

Only if you are doing it wrong.
Electric Drum kit is up to the act, quite a few bands have one.
Amps off stage, seriously simple.
In ear monitors, can work out cheaper then wedges and they are incredibly standard in the AV world now. -

I guess I'm spoiled by corporate world.

@Breffni-Potter in-ear may be "standard", but all bars have wedge monitors, and basically all sound rental places do too, in that their "standard" package includes wedges. The use of in ear monitoring is also affected by the type of band that's playing... I don't know any "rock" bands that would use them.

I don't know any "rock" bands who play at conversational volume either
-
@Breffni-Potter That's my point... that whole "reduced stage volume" shit is for the birds... and pop bands, folk artists, etc.

I'll stop before we de-rail the thread anymore

Saturday is just a Hang Out/Networking day. The hope is to go to either Letchworth park or Niagara Falls (your votes decided). Lunch/dinner etc. This will be the really relaxed day of the conference. Not a necessity but fun none the less.

Depending on what I can get flights for, I'd bring my wife in for the weekend.

September would be a really good time to visit. Not quite fall yet but cool enough to go out and sight see.

That would be awesome. If there are enough Wives that want to attend maybe I can set up something they would like as well for during the week days. Let me know if enough of you are bringing spouses along. I know that @ataylor14 would be willing to help me out with this one

It's unlikely that she would come out before Thursday night because she teaches and only gets 2 personal days off per year. But the school is closed in general on Fridays, so she could come out Thursday night.
