Solved Connect Multiple Steam Controllers to a Single Dongle
-
I know that with an official Steam Machine they have internal dongles and up to four Steam Controllers can connect to a single dongle. With my normal Steam Controllers and a laptop, I have one dongle with each controller and I can't find any means of getting two controllers to talk to a single dongle. I've looked online and on Steam's Steam Controller site specifically and can't find any information about this. Anyone know how to do this? Using two USB ports and two dongles is a pain in the butt and can't be the most efficient use of the wireless bandwidth which is always at a premium.
If anyone knows how to connect them to Bluetooth directly without any dongle, even better.

I haven't tried this....
In Big Picture mode go to Settings, Controller, Add a Controller. Press and hold X then press the Steam button. (Keep holding X). It will then give you a 4 button sequence to key in. Done.
Not sure if that will kick the other controller off or not.

@coliver Thanks, will try that. I'm in BPM all of the time and normally look through the settings pretty thoroughly. No idea why I didn't catch that to try it.

I'm having troubles with my controller lately. You haven't noticed yours dropping every 15-20 minutes have you? I think it may be something with my machine or wireless interference because my wireless headset does the same thing.

I don't think it is obvious, since the controllers are already attached to their dongles you never really have to go in there.

No, it has happened but more like once or twice a week. I get "connection issues" but they keep working fine. I do notice that when you lose line of sight that it gets worse. That's partially why I want to reduce the number of dongles so that I can get less interference and only have one that needs to be in the line of sight.
We do use Bluetooth for a stereo speaker and that drops and lags continuously. Like absolutely continuously. It makes music horrible.

Hmm, they run at the 2.4Ghz range (the same as my wireless headset) I wonder if my access point that's right next to the dongles is drowning them out.

Yup, I am assuming that that is what is getting us. The wireless in the house, that everything uses (except my laptop thankfully which is on Ethernet) and all of the Bluetooth devices (two headsets, the speakers and my mouse) and both controllers are on 2.4GHz and I don't know what frequency the Fire TV Controller uses, but as it has BT in it, I'm getting it is on BT as well. So the amount of chatter going on is pretty extreme.
I'm leaning towards getting wired speakers and a 5GHz AP for the next time that we travel to see about trimming the noise level down a bit.

This worked, thanks!
