I haven't worked with Dell servers in a long time. But generally a foreign config is one that is found on the array that the controller has no knowledge of. This is a backup in the event the controller loses its configuration.

Here is the screen. No idea what the config says yet as he is still driving.

This isn't good, it sounds like the controller has had a problem. This could be as simple as the card has simply had a memory failure and can't remember its configuration. At this point it sounds like what is on the card is useless, hopefully everything that is needed is on the disks themselves. It should be, but things can fail of course.

The theory is that loading the configuration from disk is all that is needed.

Needs to be noted that that this happened suggests something is wrong with the controller. Might be failed chips, might be a dead battery, might be a bug in firmware, could just be a sun spot. Just need to mention that there is a reason to believe that the card may need to be replaced.

@hubtechagain imported the foreign config and after a reboot, the system came up. He pulled the HD, then rebooted again, no more foreign config errors and the system is booting as desired.

The drive is being called in for warranty replacement.

It still may be a good idea to look into the card or a dead battery. Power loss shouldn't cause this issue.
