MangoCon After Event - Finger Lakes Wine Tour 2016
-
How many people would be interested in taking a day two day trip down to the New York State Finger Lakes Wine District after MangoCon 2016 in Rochester, NY?
The New York Finger Lakes District, where the MangoCon Event will be held next year, is the east coast's premier wine region and famous for its world class German, Alsatian and Russian style wines. From sweet whites to the driest reds that you can imagine, the region is both oenophile approved but also beautiful to beyond with rolling hills and long, large, deep glacier lakes.
The region has three excellent wine trails: Cayuga (ending at Ithaca, NY), Seneca (ending at Watkins Glen, NY) and Keuka (starting from Pen Yann, NY.) Traditional wine trailing involves hopping from winery to winery sampling a range of wines at each. The wine region is also known for its fine cuisine and local produce including grape products, goat cheese, apples, pumpkins, lettuce, corn and more.
Ithaca, NY is NY's food city and culinary capital. Also home to Cornell University and Ithaca College.

@scottalanmiller I'm in!
-
Do the have a Scotch trail?

If I end up coming to the conference, there is no way I'd miss hitting up those trails. Long Island has some wonderful wine out East, especially the North Fork Wine Trail (a couple were recently featured in Wine Spectator), but Finger Lakes wine is something special I've never gotten a chance to try.

I'm definitely in!

Not much of a wine/alcohol person but I may come hang out.
-
Are we doing some sort of a carpool for this after event? I'm considering it, but don't know if I want to be driving around hung over from the first 3 days.
-
We will have to coordinate something. We will have to see how many we have. Often you get a limo or something for wine trailing so you don't need a DD.

I'm so in.... I'm guessing they have food along these trails? Besides cheese plates, of course. Gotta have nice cheese with wine tastings.
-
@RojoLoco There are lots of amazing restaurants in these areas, some of them at the wineries themselves.

Many of the wineries have little eateries in them as well. It's a very foodie region.

Some of the best restaurants in the Finger Lakes are actually the wineries. You won't go hungry.
