It's an official holiday of the US gov't and a bank holiday. Of the ten recognized US Federal and bank holidays, this is one of them.

Lots of small companies don't give any but two or three holidays. Christmas and Thanksgiving are about the only that are truly standard across the board. And in service industries, those don't exist either

Most business out here are open today - I suppose the banks and Gov't offices are closed as you mentioned, but the hospitals, clinics, etc are open for the most part for regular business.

Yeah, if you're talking about thier ERs and the surgical bays.. sure... but most hospitals today also have clinics attached.. .those have regular office hours aka M-F 7-6 (sometimes you find ones with extended hours). To the patient it's all 'just a hospital'.

There are 10 federal bank holidays, but only 7 holidays that business normally deal with.

I have Windows updates to apply to servers over the weekend, but nothing requiring serious thought. All risk free since it is all VM guests. Just make snapshot, patch, delete snapshot unless something broke. IF it broke, just revert to snapshot and research errors on Monday.
