I had a user with similar issues, turns out it was malware that was hiding them.

I should mention that the files could be found by enabling "show Hidden Files and folders".

This does not appear to be the case here but probably well worth your time giving the USB a scan.

Yeah but it's always good to get a second opinion 😉 , try Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (if it's your home PC) just to be sure.
It's not free for business use, so you might need to fund a different program for work.

Are you on SSD or a traditional spinning hard disk?

I ask before... is it possible that it is just taking a really, really long time for that folder to open for the first time?

The hard disk is traditional only not SSD.
There is no time delay when I opened the folder for the first time

No time delay, but nothing appears.... That's why I'm wondering if just showing the contents is taking a while.

Instead of Windows Explorer, can you see things doing a dir from the command line?

Well, your results aren't good. Looks like there is nothing there.

                            • If you run a search on the root level of the USB for *.* , does anything show up?
                            • Did you Cut and Paste the files or Copy and Paste?
If you cut the files, then forgetting to paste them, copied something else... they are gone 😞

It's entirely possible that they have been pasted/moved to an unintended location.

How long did the copy take? Are the files still on the USB drive?

Maybe try a copy at the command line instead. Or even use Robocopy.
