East DC was less affected by this. The West DC had way more issues.

Don't debate. Just do it.

Actually, MayanEDMS might be what you're looking for. It does OCR and indexing. I have a running instance, but I haven't used it at all yet.
This looks interesting. I wonder how well it can catalog other digital assets (images, video, etc)

Fedora - Automating Config File Modifications
Without using a CM tool, what is the easiest way to automate modifications to several config files across 7-8 servers? I was looking at sed, but am not sure if there is a better tool that isn't a CM.
More specifically, I have several Fedora servers running squid proxy. From time to time, I need to modify the config file to whitelist a particular domain. Because I will soon have a few more servers, I would like to automate these type of file updates so I don't have to manually go into each server's config and copy and paste stuff in to certain sections; some information is specific to a particular server, where as this section would be universally necessary on all servers. So, I would be inserting lines in specific sections.
I intend to move to some sort of CM for this stuff in the future, but I need to get these going sooner than I could learn the CM tool.

RE: Question about UBNT Bridge Performance vs SFP
Isn't a virtual bridge just turning the other ports into a switch?

RE: Netgear Insight Managed Switches
@pmoncho Ah, I see. I have Extreme Networks Summit switches. They are definitely more than netgear. As others have mentioned, you can look at one of the 12-port SFP+ core type switches from Ubiquiti. For the price, that is a lot of throughput.

I don't deal much with shielded. They look kinda messy. Isn't the shielding supposed to be in the connector with the rest of the cable?
That cable is really messy. Normally you would get just aluminium foil, but these have wire on top, like coax, then plastic foil and ESD drain wire. The worst cable I had to work with. The connectors are also shielded. Everything in this setup was shielded, and ground was at patch panel. I had to break the shield between couplers and panel to get PoE to work.
Seems like a pain, for sure.
Literally, I was pulling wires from my fingers for a while after working with that.
Ugh. That is terrible. Little metal splinters suck.

Ubiquity but they only have SFP+ ports on 48 port
Is your concern that you need 10Gb but they are only offered on the 48 ports? Or you want the 48 ports but only need 1G SFP?

Nope. You connect ONE side of the shielding to ground. Managing them is a pain. Also, if shielding is required, just us fiber imo.
I would imagine that the endpoints would determine that. If there is only an RJ45 port, then you are kinda stuck, right?

Why in a phone, i don't know?
I wonder what's the size of avg 108MP image, it's probably near 100MB. TB+ storage in phone would be in order too.
Up to 40MB per image.
But 108 megapixel is just a big number for marketing. Most people don't know the difference between pixel count and image resolution.
Simplified, image resolution is how much detail is visible. And that is really what you are after, but not what you are going to get. You'll simply get a lot of pixels without much detail.
Also, the optics and sensor are more important than the Mp count.

RE: Veeam Active Full or Synthetic Full?
@JaredBusch said in Veeam Active Full or Synthetic Full?:
Because I sync Veeam’s backup target (a Synology NAS) to B2, I do not use the synthetic full that daily recreates the full backup. That would cause the entire vdk to need to be uploaded to B2 every day.
In my case I set up active full to run on Fridays. A different server each Friday. Stacking various serves on the same Friday to balance the load over the month.
Then daily incrementals.
This is also exactly why I don't do this.

@notverypunny said in 2-in-1 laptop for a C-Level:
For the Dells, the newest dock (WD19 IIRC) is much better (than the WD15) based on preliminary testing and a couple that we've deployed so far. I'll strongly suggest getting the version with the 180W power so as to minimize the chances of your user having to connect the dock and the laptop's power if he's got some especially power hungry gadgets connected to the dock.
Although, knock on wood we haven't had many problems with the WD15 lately, so maybe the latest FW has fixed some of the bugs that we'd run into initially.
Glad to hear. Have had several issues with the WD15. Just recently started getting the WD19 but haven't had enough time in service yet to make any judgements on whether or not they are an improvement.
WD15 issues I have had reported-
- Screens losing signal off and on and even alternating rapidly (every second).
- BSOD
- Power alert pre-boot stating that the power supply is not large enough. Requires user intervention to finish boot.

As far as Wasabi, I think it has proved to me not to be an enterprise solution over the outages. The pricing is so low in comparison to AWS and Azure, that it isn't much of a surprise they cut corners.
Have you used them?
I used them. They were great for several months. I redirected my off-site backups from AWS S3 to Wasabi. During September and October, I could not get any files into (or out of) my buckets, so I was forced to switch back to AWS S3.

Well, you can't beat the RTO of that solution with anything cloud related.
lol - maybe, maybe not.
I guess it depends on if the guy who has them in his closet is on vacation or not.
Or goes rogue lol

Could be to take it off site and store it.
Yeah, the portability for off site transfer is one of the biggest benefits to tape. But, if you don't have that much data, you can still get it offsite via a VTL and your WAN link.
