@magicmarker said in Turn off old ERP system running on Win2008R2 and view the exported data:

@DustinB3403 The new ERP system is SAP. The SAP consultants are long gone now and technically the archived data on the old ERP isn't necessary to be imported into the new SAP system. You know how it goes, sometimes you need to look back at a old data to help you with something else. We just wanted to turn off the old Windows 2008R2 servers yet still give the users access to the old data if necessary. I will have to see how large the exported CSV files turn out to be. A nice simple solid option rather than going through all the steps to setup a Fedora DB server though.

If they don't need to run reports and whatnot, it seems a CSV could be the best option.

@scottalanmiller Thanks SAM! I ended up here as a link-through from a SpiceWorks thread, where I have been a member/user for over 5 years (and in IT for over 15).

FTR- I am almost convinced SAM has cloned himself and none of the clones sleep... EVER. There are more posts on these two forums and the smbjournal than I can ever read. But that doesn't stop me from trying! 😛

@scottalanmiller I think more of the cluster aspect would suggest some sort of HA but I guess clustering doesn't necessarily mean HA; it is also used for pooling resources.

    • vCenter Server 6 on Windows 2012 R2 - Backup using Veeam 8

      Hello,

My first topic/question post on ML!

I just migrated everything out of the deprecated VMware VSA 5.5 cluster I had running and tore it all down and did fresh installations of ESXi 6 on 3 hosts and played musical VMs while doing one host at a time. Anyway, I also spun up a new Windows 2012 R2 VM for vCenter Server 6 and learned that the internal DB had changed from SQL Server Express to vPostgres (I knew that the server appliance used this DB), although the Update Manger DB is still SQL express. I want to make sure that I can get a good clean backup of both the vCenter Server DB and the Windows server, itself.

I have Veeam B&R 8 (fully-patched and waiting for 9) and saw this KB article on VMware's website regarding the backup of the vPostgres DB.
      http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2091961

So I have tested the script and it runs successfully. I have a ShoreTel server that I have been using a backupscripts.d folder in the VMware tools directory that kills the ShoreTel services and whatnot just before the Veeam backup is run and then, afterward, restarts them all. This is completely separate from any settings in the Veeam "Job Scripts" section (Storage>Advanced Settings>Advanced). I have tried Googling the backupscripts.d method for vSphere 6 and can't find anything. VMware's KB article mentioning this method shows that the applicable versions up to 5.5 so I am not sure if it is just not up to date or if this method has been deprecated in version 6.

My main question is, how do I integrate this with Veeam?

      Thanks!

      @Lyndsie_xByte said:

Thanks for the mention @scottalanmiller , @wrx7m - Just talked to the engineers. Short answer is yes. If you put the SSDs into the rear backplane, the system will automatically ask if you want them to be cachecade disks when you configure them. If you add then into other slots, you can change them into a cahcecade array when you are editing the controller settings. You press F2 to select the type on the settings.

I should be able to do a hot add, right? Then configure from iDRAC? I would like to do it without taking down the server, if possible.

    • RE: What Are You Doing Right Now

@RojoLoco Also, I had my AC go out in the server room at a place I worked at about 10 years ago when I was only helpdesk. No one knew anything was wrong until the next day when nothing worked. Open the server room door and it was like 105 in there. JBODs and a tape library and local storage cooked to death. $50K and a few weeks later and we got most of it back after sending the drives to a clean room recovery facility. After that we installed climate monitoring and alerting from IT Watchdogs. I learned my lesson from that.

When I started at my current place (5 years ago), the server room had a portable AC and an in-wall unit neither of which was doing anything but blowing the hot air around the room. Install a ductless split system and IT watchdogs again. I have had two AC failures and was able to prevent a meltdown each time. Power off everything remotely and go open the room to cool it down. Leave room open with gigantic fan blowing exhaust out the door and power things back on. We are now on the second ductless split system.

My concern is with what it will break. Each macOS release has broken something for us, and some of them go into the "just live with it" category because Apple appears to be completely unresponsive to their power user community.

Like how they broke SMB and AFP protocols and just ignore it?

I have had issues with this for years, here.

What style of shoes are we talking here....as in what are they for? Everyday use, sports use, smart use...? We need more details!!

daily drivers.... I wear Champion tennis shoes to work and pretty much everywhere. I have dress shoes for the rare time I need them, so I am looking for a replacement for my daily driver.

They don't need to be tennis shoes to replace them.. it's not like I'm going out running in them... so a damn comfortable non making my feet hot pair of shoes would be fine too.

M DC Pure SE are super comfy and last a long time for me, but I know that style isn't everyone's cup of tea 😉

      yep kinda plain

Yeah, some look better than others, I have a pair that seems to be discontinued, but they're black grey and white (can't be anything TOO exciting for work)...

I get away with murder dress code wise. We are required to wear business attire but they also allow flip flops for some reason. First day I wore a suit with flip flops. Come at me HR

In one of my previous jobs that I didn't like so much, we were allowed to wear khakis with a company branded polo or a button down shirt with a tie. I got tired of the crappy polo shirts that would shrink up and not in so I started wearing short-sleeved plaid button down shirts and a tie that I left tied but would put on at the beginning of the day and take off for lunch and repeat. The knot was super tight after awhile. It got interesting when a nice lady that worked a couple offices over cleaned out her husband's tie collection and gave us all his old ones. They were super ugly and went "nicely" with the plaid shirts I wore.

Here, I can wear jeans with button down shirts or polos but I gave that up a long time ago. I now wear jeans and t-shirts with a hoodie when it is cold.
