I am trying to decide what made me want to switch to Firefox. The web browser stutters so bad, I can get to be a good paragraph a head of the text boxes here and on some other sites before the text even starts to display.

Everything seems to have a serious delay of a second or two or three when clicking or scrolling...

Just ranting right now... today I'm going to see if I can come up with a good solution.

I think your computer is broken... I don't have that problem.
How much RAM do you have? FF and Chrome both suffer from to much RAM requirements.

Turns out it is like an MS product... Gotta restart it every now and again. I checked the ram usage, and for 6 tabs over 2 windows, it was chewing up almost 2GB of ram. Shut it down and checked it again... same 6 tabs, only 500 megs of ram... much better.

      Memory leaks? 😞

Every web browser I've tried eats ram like crazy. Try to tone down those auto-play video advertisements and the plugin takes even more memory. It's just terrible anymore.

Yeah I tried to explain this to my users the other day and they refused to believe that every browser out there has issues like this. It's tough to put it in a way they can understand 😞

Just started Path of Exile "Free on Steam" and I'm having so much fun. Currently playing a "Witch" class and going for AOE build that I googled. It's worth checking out since it's free.

I've played it. They really did Diablo 2 justice.

I'm currently trying to concentrate on work but having issues.... My boss died in his sleep Saturday night at 50 years old. I can only guess but it had to have been a massive heart attack. I've only been here for a month so I haven't really had a chance to really know him but he enjoyed whiskey so we talked about that at length. He seemed like a great guy and a fair boss from what everyone at the company ever told me about him. It's strange to try and just go through the day "business as usual" knowing that there is this elephant in the room but nobody really wants to talk about it quite yet.

At my company we help people with developmental disabilities, some of which are very old. Anytime someone passes away it's a very sad time for everyone. Hang in there.

Well, the move is intentional, no question there. Canonical has said that they are aware. Canonical claims that they are not in violation and that the licenses are compatible. SFC claims, and has for over a decade, that the two are incompatible.

Do you think this inclusion is worth a legal battle should one ensue?

I installed proxmox a couple months ago to see what their new release was like. It had ZFS as an option, and I think it was the default. It was horribly slow.

ZFS as a filesystem is just about the slowest on the market. Not designed for that at all. If you add SSD caching or whatever to it it does a lot, but it is all the LVM layer that is fast, the filesystem is super slow. Phoronix measured it at about half the speed of XFS.

Question: Isn't the advantage of ZFS modern advances like striping, device pooling, block level CRC, etc? The lack of speed is due to the fact that ZFS actually checks the CRC against the write, correct?

VPN = "Adding them to the LAN when they are far away."

      That's it. Nothing more.

Yeah but it should make it visible in a way it wasn't before considering we have no MDM system in place. I was wondering how I might use that to my advantage--if its even possible.

I've inquire with the powers that be if they would like a print to mobile device like option.

The thinking is... Instead of paper. The document could just be sent to a phone or ipad/android tablet, etc. 99% of the time the look and throw away... This would avoid the waste.

Anyone see a anything like this?

Unlikely. There's a lot to go on in the backend with something like that.

Sure there could be a lot on the backend... But I would think this would be immensely useful. Though I'm not sure how you'd do it in a LANless setup... I suppose with something like ZT it might be easier.

Does ZT work with mobile devices?

      Android today, iOS soon.

      That's great. Wow.

And of course any Windows mobile device can use it normally.

My question would be how can you use that effectively? Just visibility or can you use it to manage devices?

I don't even know what this question means in relation to the technology mentioned.

I mean what benefit is there to having mobile devices on ZeroTier (a VPN)? I assume to give out updates and for visibility.

I don't know, what caused you to ask if you could put them on the VPN? What do you mean by updates and visibility?

Given your mentioned plans, how about watching Plex from the mobile device or answering phone calls?

Sorry if I'm not being clear, I'm trying. Think WSUS but for phones for management purposes in a company

Can you do this on the LAN already? I'm not aware of a tool for doing this on your network. What are you picturing?

No I can't. I don't really do anything with mobile devices so I figured I'd ask questions. Sorry I'm not making a ton of sense 😞

I went ahead and ordered one this morning. I would like a zero instead, but I can find some use for this until I can get a zero. I have a few projects where a zero's size would be quite useful.

What are you using the zero for?

I wanted to do the retro pi setup with the pi zero in the controller itself. A pi zero would also work better in my picture frame than my B+. It's my alarm clock right now. Then with their price point, I could try other things on a whim, if they were more available.

Oh that's cool. I just put an Arduino into my arcade stick as a led controller. Let me know how that goes ^_^

I think I'm going to order one of these. I am seriously thinking about building my own arcade machine and this would be an awesome first step.

I've wanted to do that for forever, of course now with all of the travelling there is no good way to take it with me. I want a full stand up cabinet. But I think something more powerful than this would be good. I think that the ARM architecture will be limiting if you want anything newer emulated.

Yes. If you want specifically a Retro arcade cabinet though it's fine. Here is a great tutorial tutorial.
