I had been buying all my equipment from the same guy for the last 8 years but last week, he decided to leave the IT sales stuff and now I'm looking for a new vendor. Who are you guys using that you're happy with?

Didn't see that when I skimmed through it. That sucks.

So like everything Cisco Meraki forced licensing.
Seems like a bad thing to ever invest into.
Since using the Meraki APs, I would never go to a different solution. They're phenomenal products and I think most people on here who are familiar with Meraki would attest to that.
We have meraki's AP and firewall here, which kind of boggles my mind. Licensing to use something you're paying retail for (forever).
It's not like a cell phone upgrade program either. Cisco: "Ohh you want the new model? That'll be $1400 plus an extra $50/month forever" (on top of the existing monthly subscription)
I won the thing and thought someone may be able to use it and a much lower price than suggested retail. If you don't want it, fine. No one asked anyone to come in here and start bashing the product. Its a decent product and if you don't want it, fine.
Someone's grumpy. . .
Not grumpy at all. I posted something here that I thought someone may want and a bunch of people come in here and start trashing it. Do you comb through your local craigslist ads and email the people selling stuff to tell them their stuff is a pile of shit too?
No, but that's not the point of Craigslist right? This is an IT Discussion forum and we're discussing a product that relates to IT. I've had experience with Meraki, it's underpowered, overpriced, and for the most part, their support is awful compared to the community or free support available for other vendors. That's my ancedotal bit but the experience from using Meraki has left a sour taste in my mouth on more then one occasion.
I wouldn't disagree but I didn't post this asking for opinions and no one asked for them. However you have a valid point because of first hand experience. I did not have that experience and considering the stuff on my plate on a daily basis, I want some things to be simple (like knowing my wifi works without a hitch) and since I'm not paying for it out of my pocket, I recommend what I want. Meraki has never come up short for me. If I was in the market for security cameras and having my experience with Meraki, I would definitely consider them especially if I could get one at a discounted price.

No because that would be spamming, here I was simply commenting on a product. If craigslist had that option, I'd do it there too.
Whatever. If you don't want it, don't buy it. Its that simple...move on to another thread.

What's the point of the license on a camera? Does it just turn off after the license expires?
The licensing gets it connected to the portal where its managed from. Without the license, its pretty useless since its all managed through the cloud unless there'd be some way to access it directly.

Isn't there some kind of stipulation in place that you can't just turn around and sell it?
I haven't gotten it yet but I doubt it. I have Meraki AP's in place now and I set them up, entered the info on the meraki portal and I was done. I would imagine I could use this for personal use instead of at my work and they wouldn't care one way or the other.

Meraki MV71 Outdoor HD Dome Camera & 3 year license
Mod Edit: Thread is open for discussion, but due to error the equipment is not available. Read the thread before jumping in.
I just won one of these in a contest over on the SW forums and I think I'd like to sell it. I'll be posting it on craigslist locally but thought I'd post here to see if anyone has been looking at something similar and wants a deal. These are selling on Amazon from Meraki for $1574...pm me or make me an offer if interested. Assuming it gets here by the 19th, I could bring it to Mangocon.

@scottalanmiller San Francisco
That's the worst possible place for a convention!
That's where VMWorld was when I went there a few years back. It was insane. I registered late so to get between my hotel and the conference, I had to take a airport shuttle so I could take the BART train to the conference. It was 45 minutes of travel each way.

I understand but I enjoy going to Austin and I have a good friend that I can see so SW is as important to me as the trip itself.
Are you going to MC this year?
-
RE: VMWorld 2017
Well, now my boss has squashed VMWorld all together and is "thinking about" SW. 2 months ago, I was approved for VMWorld and MC, now he balking because of the cost of MC...Accountants are a pain in the ass.

@scottalanmiller I'm a little on the fence. Its so damn expensive (and long). I would almost rather save the company some cash and go to SpiceWorld instead. Does anyone even go to SpiceWorld anymore?
After going to Spiceworld once, I can confidently say there is little reason to go. In fact, if my ticket had not been comped, I would have been PISSED that I paid anything to be there.
The @scale cruise was super fun, don't miss that if you go. Besides that, the only other highlight was flaming Dr. Peppers with @scottalanmiller et al.
I've been there 5 times and to be completely honest, the biggest takeaway has always been networking with you guys. I didn't attend one breakout session in years 3 though 5. My admission would also be comped so the price is right.

Actually it seems to still be growing, but the core group has shrunk a lot. It's less and less people that know each other and more and more random one timers that aren't active in the community or don't even know that it is there. Although after the London issue this year, I wonder if Austin will have growth. Lots of people still wondering if it will go forward.
What happened in London?

VMWorld 2017
Anyone planning on going this year? I have approval to go. It would be nice to know at least one person of the few thousand attending.
