@thanksajdotcom In life you will learn that having unbelievable integrity means a lot to people.

Can you do what your doing? Sure, I considered doing it. I have a dreamspeak key too, but I am not a student, so I don't use it.

What happens when you don't get a job offer because of this posting?

If a job is going to mince words over an issue like that, I don't want to work there anyways. Also, we've already established the Dreamspark key is valid for life and that's perfectly legal. What you're doing by not using it is just stupid, as it violates nothing to use it.

So if a company won't hire you over lack morals and ethics it's just stupid. Hmm.. Well McDonalds will hire without ethics.

It's about being reasonable. I'm using a Dreamspark key, which is legitimate, for my own personal educational purposes. I did not pirate the key. So I'm using it on a cloud server. Oooohhhhh, big whoop. If a company really wanted to dig deep enough into my world to find that out, AND make an issue out of it, they can take any job they have and stick it. Not worth it to me to work for a company that digs that deep into your life.

It's not legitimate for the use you used it it does not matter that the key is valid.

You obliviously don't realize how good SEO is and that any company will think this means you don't care about terms, laws etc. and will do the same on their own network. I'm curious of what @Minion-Queen would think of a employee or potential employee posting they don't care about violating licensing terms, pirating etc on a public forum.

Ok, violating licensing terms is not equal to pirating. I don't agree with that.

It's also possible that because SO many of the jobs in the Dallas area are lowering paying jobs, and this is about the average salary and not the number of jobs, that Dallas didn't make the list. The vast majority of IT jobs in Dallas are call-center jobs that don't pay well.

True, Dallas is not at the top of the payscales by any stretch. But it is definitely not primarily a call center city. Deal with the Datamart and stuff and it is a decent amount of fairly high end IT.

What this list REALLY deals with is software engineering, something that Dallas does not do. That's why Austin, which has no IT, is on the list.

I don't know Scott. Even the jobs that aren't at the major companies like Verizon and Intel Security are with MSPs that work primarily remotely, so still basically a call center. Every job I had in Dallas was at some form of a call center. And that's the vast majority of the jobs.

One of the two lab servers that had to be reimaged worked. The other looked like it worked, I could see it via the console, but the IP address didn't work and the password didn't work. So reimagining AGAIN. Two days now. I see where Aaron was having problems. With the imaging taking a full day and then failing more often than not, this really does get painful.

I better not have to reimage mine. That'd be a pain in the ass.

Never enough...and right now it's all frozen is hexagonal patterns...aka snowflakes...LOL

oh we don't have snow here, I want snow lols.

Snow would kill you. Snow is something you need to grow up around to know how to handle it, have your body adapt, know how to drive in it, etc.

I am a firm believer in being moral and ethical. However, where there are rules, there are reasonable ways to bend said rules. I didn't torrent my key or even my ISO. All that is legit. The fact I'm using it on a hosted platform may violate the letter of the licensing agreement, but not the spirit. It's datacenter but I'm not running Hyper-V on it or hosting other machines. You really want to get all over me for doing this with one VM over a pretty minor technicality? Also, it's not a business. As I've said, if this was a business environment, I would following the licensing to the T. Not worth the risk to do otherwise. But in this case, with this server, and because it's not in a business environment, who cares?

Not sure yet. Plantronics and Webroot are currently on my list though.

Interesting choices as neither is an IT company. One is a hardware vendor and the other is a software (and security) vendor. Neither provides IT as a service externally and neither has a large scale need for IT internally. Webroot, since they have a hosted product (SaaS) would have far more IT than Plantronics from a "more than plumbing" perspective. But as an IT professional, what drives either to be sought after opportunities? Both are great companies to get products from, but to "work at" in an IT role seems odd as dream companies.

I actually want to be a sales engineer for Plantronics. I could probably walk in today and do the job swimmingly.

    • Kinda Wish I Was in Austin...

So I was actually internally recommended at Spiceworks for a position they have open. The guy I hung out with on Monday with @dengelhardt and Seth Morgan was named Peter, and he's a Spiceworker. He recommended me internally and I got an email from one of their people about this job. I REALLY wish I was in Austin right now because the job description literally sounds perfect for me. 😞 Not much I can do about it now...oh well...

Linux pulls for updates. Windows gets pushed. They do a rolling push over a few weeks, I believe, to stagger both the network load and the support load.

I'm aware. I have my servers run updates automatically but I ran these manually. Easy. For Windows I was just curious how they handled it.
