    • Free SSL cert used in phishing scam

In the top news yesterday, a free SSL cert from CloudFlare shows up in a phishing scam.

Secure site or not, you still shouldn't blindly click on links in an email, but we all know that some of our clients can't be taught!

    • RE: MS to stop support for all but the most current version of IE as of Jan 2016

It's about time. It's a shame that businesses can just pass the buck on the end users.

I have experienced support saying stupid stuff like, you shouldn't have gotten Windows Vista, 7 or Windows 8. And then proceed to tell the client or tech that MS broke the website.

I know for a fact that anyone using MS IE for creating a website has the ability to get the beta or developers version before the final draft comes out. They could be working on their website before the launch.

Last client I had to set compatablity settings in IE to read the page as IE7...ridiculous!

I've heard good things about Seasonic, but because of the good service we have experienced we usually purchase Corsair or Thermaltake.

Plus 1 for Brother's inkjet MFC Pro series and the older printer only B&W laser printers.

I am tempted to pick the Brother Printer HL3075CW Wireless Color Printer for our business.

    • RE: Security by using .net instead of .com

@Dashrender Got it. I have actually seen that a lot. They don't call it security per say, they usually justify the .net as the SSL site and the .com is the public facing site. Some think its security by obscurity (or is that absurdity?), others just want to keep things separate.

Although SSL on the whole site used to be something everyone avoided, Google has now suggested that all sites use SSL.

I don't like sales people much.

And where do I have to click to get the redirect?

In reality I wouldn't like this (for gaming it would be awesome). I have to have desk space. I currently have about 10 different piles of paperwork to work on. I also love writing notes on paper so there is not even close to enough space on that thing for actual work.

What is this "paper" you speak of?

I have always wanted one of those. Would be so awesome for long days of coding and really amazing for gaming. It would be even cooler if you mounted this to a conveyor system that would carry you around some cool spaces while you worked.

      Didn't I see that on Wall-e?

Which blogs and forums don't paste as plain text? I'm sure all the ones I use do.

      WordPress accepts full style.

WP since 3.0 has always had the paste as text option. You might have to click unhide kitchen sink, if I remember correctly.

    • RE: Adding items to MAX RemoteManagement System Tray (Solved)

      @GregoryHall @Minion-Queen

Someone in the LinkedIn MAX RemoteManagement group had the answer I needed.

According to MS information on this website the correct way to call programs in the System32 folder is like this:

%windir%\Sysnative\name-of-file.exe, or for the Snipping Tool: %windir%\Sysnative\snippingtool.exe.

Once MAX RM pushed out the update to the client, it worked as expected.

I ended up changing the users Chrome password. I also recommended that she change all passwords. She had just started using LastPass and was adding sites as she went. Now she knows how to use the random password generator and is changing all passwords.

I think the reason I haven't done anything is I don't know who to EOL their existing web mail and how to transfer that to their new mail server since most are not using a desktop client.

Even if they don't use a client, you can still use IMAP for a transfer.

Thanks...will keep that in mind. My goal is move email off my web server by end of Q1

@technobabble maybe the answer is coaching clients that web hosting doesn't imply email hosting and the two should never be tied together.

    • RE: The End of In House Email

I have been debating on killing email as a function of website hosting. I have seen other hosting companies drop email hosting in favor for O365 email hosting.

Worst part of running a web server for clients is the email issues that arise. I could offload that to another cloud service and they can choose between Google Apps and O365.

@Reid-Cooper I can see this happening.

Something like this: (store employee) Hey, I can make sure you get great deals if you download this app.

You install the app which turns on BT by default and you agree to it. Tada...you now part of something helpful that can save you money!

Side effects included loss of battery life, annoyances in general.

@thanksaj No wealthy people are needed to start a grass roots non-profit program.

And without money, how do you gain traction in the industry and push for standardization? Money is what makes things happen. People talk about movements and all that, but in the end, it all takes money in one form or another.

To start we have a minimum of 5 platforms available that some use weekly: Mangolassi, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and that other IT forum we don't talk about.

Then there are the tons of reputable IT website owners that are used by millions to get answers to computer questions. We invite them to the table as well.

      Really? wondering - why?

My worry would be what is the machine was powered down for any unseen reason, would it be able to start again and function. I'm sure that there is a backup, but if its a VM backup, it would still be over 3 years since the last reboot.
