This make me wonder... if my computer has DeepFreeze installed, and it is enabled. If I caught a virus will it be remove the next restart?

Deepfreeze locks the system state. You should be virus free when the machine restarts. However there have been some malware that can get out of the deepfreeze jail and infect the non-volatile file system.

      interesting..... thanks for the input.

So I'm having some ridiculous issues with Avast Free AV and I'm considering switching to something else.
      Details here: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=203267.0

What have you got for AV?

I'm rocking Malwarebytes + Windows Defender on Windows 10. Malwarebytes 3.0+ has be buggy with its trying to do so many task... but so far I am safe from ads on pornhub. ;)\

EDIT: I have paid version of Malwarebytes. On my other machine I only have Windows Defender, but I rarely visit websites other than Netflix, Hulu, and Youtube on my other machine.

    • Emoticons broken in O365 CC Version 1703. Version 1704 available for update

Just in case if no one posted about this yet... Office 365 Current Channel Version 1703 breaks auto correct emoticons.

If you are currently using Office 365 and on CURRENT channel you may be on Version 1703 (Build 7967.XXXX) you may experience broken emoticons in Word/Outlook. This is caused by unnecessary (thoughtful, but maybe no...) added auto corrects to some regularly used smiley faces.

Version 1703 for Current Channel was released in April, and Version 1704 was released on May 18th of this month.

What's the address? I live 30 minutes away from Carrolton so I might be able to get there if I beat the traffic.

@Joel said in Prompt before sending external emails:

IE. I believe this can be done using MailTips or at least MailTips will show a bar at the top whilst we compose indicating who the message will go to?

This is probably a more of a best practice/training than IT trying to find a solution.

Personally, I would create a spreadsheet with a list of all candidates/recipients, then paste them when I am sure I have the correct information. That is how our marketing person do her job.

OWA should have the ability to use semicolon or comma to separate each emails, so using =concate in excel should easily create a string of emails for you. Outlook is smart enough to separate them by spaces.

Send an email to that and a mod account posts the question.

But you cannot continue conversation afterward without revealing your account.

I wish there's a way to post as anonymous. Something along the line of showing the name as alias instead of actual name. Obviously, mods still need to be able to track down the OP so complete anonymous might cause more issue. Just a thought

Red Hat is the primary requirement with MCSA and CCNA as preferred. Possible for multi-position in the future?
      It's system administration position.

Title, not likely position. Why would anyone care at all if a real system admin had CCNA? That it's a multi-OS SA, okay, that happens (but is generally pretty inefficient), but CCNA... no way is it an SA job. It's a standard generalist, they are just putting a title on there to make it sound appealing to someone interested in an enterprise job. Guaranteed.

I am watching some red hat videos on youtube... and I want to know if Red Hat RHSA is highly valued for linux, or something mid-range linux certification? Compared to A+, MCP, MCSA, and MCSE... where would RHSA equivalent as?

Right now I am making decent amount of money, but I do not like my current boss... so I want to change my field. I looked around some job board and come across ISD system administrator job with slightly less pay (but it sounds interesting), plus half the travel distance.

Some requirement is BS and Red Hat Linux certification + MSCA and CCNA.
I am comfortable with MCSA and CCNA, but Red Hat... Any recommendation?

Those are certifications for like 3 completely different fields/specializations... what is the job?

I agree, what job could need all of that? And of course the BS is BS. 🙂

    • SSDs for home media server. What's your preferred brand? (SATA)

In my previous thread asking about home server, and came to the conclusion of getting a basic gaming computer with plenty of memory and fast hard drives.

My questions what brand would you go with? I have seen Samsung and Kingston widely used. I will be getting 3 drives for Raid 5 & Raid 1 HDD for backups.

Since I will be reading from it more than write, I do not feel I need to go above consumer grade SSD. Especially when the drive now come with 5+ years warranty.... by the time it dies and out of warranty I am positive there will be a better option down the road.

What brand do you use on your home server?

    • Cheap VPN Access for.... torrenting?

I am looking for a VPN Access to be put on my virtual machine mainly for Farming game and torrenting.
      Any recommendation?

I used Private Internet Access before. They are decent and cheap, but I wonder if anyone has any other recommendation?
The TunnelBear service doesn't allow torrenting so that's a no go.

      Let me know 😄

ps. What's Water Closet for? I'm hoping it is meant for ANYTHING else beside tech discussion.

I have mix impression about this speaker. Kind of hard to understand which question he is answering when he doesn't read the question out loud.

You have to give him some leeway, English is not his first language, obviously. He's doing a great job.

I understand. I don't mind the accent, but trying to decipher the question from the answer is kind of confusing.
Although he does read out some questions.
