OK, so this might be a little long and confusing. Please feel free to ask me anything or clarify anything. This is for my cousins gaming machine I built for him, and I am not a gamer, nor do I build machines on a weekly basis. So I am at a loss, and this is out of my area of expertise.
OK, so I built the machine in June 2017. I over clocked it using the BIOS preset gamer over clock setting. It worked fine for about a year, then all of a sudden the computer started shutting down while he was playing games. So I took off the over clock and loaded optimal preset. I reapplied new compound to it this weekend, and reset the over clock back to what it was before and it ran fine for one day, then starts to shut down again, so load optimal.
While OC, during idle the max value was 69c. During load 80-90c. I am not sure what temps where when I first build it.
Back to optimal, defualt bios config, at idle, max is 66c, avg 50-55. Ill try get more temps tomorrow after he plays again, but if i remeber right was 75-80
I am using HWMonitor. Not sure if there is something better to use than can log the temps
So I am wondering is there a hardware issue? Possible water cooler went out (I dont have the usb connected yet, but will once the cable comes in)?
One other issue I had with it was the RAM I got was not on the QVL, and was hoping it would eventually be supported and run at the 3200mhz. Right now on latest bios, its still at 2133. I purchased new RAM to try get something more compatible (thinking I finally got the cooling under control).
Again, sorry, I am a noob at gaming rigs, and havent actually built systems as a living for over 10 years, so sorry if I sound dumb, or confused.
