CentOS takes so little and then just one or two yum commands to a MediaWiki install.

I sort of did this until about 6 years ago - A VMWARE expert who was helping me setup my infrastructure laid it out for me about snapshots. Whenever I talk about them now, I express that my policy is that snapshots are only allowed to live on my network for a few hours, until I am assured that I don't need to immediately go back to it. It is a fall back process, not a backup strategy.

That's exactly right. I've been told to never snapshot a DC though if it's in a dual+ DC environment. Causes split-brain issues. Makes sense.

People say this about DCs but it applies to any database or HA system.

Since I'm a complete NOOB on Linux I was/am looking for something I could get up and running quickly, Turnkey fit the bill, but is starting to have some shortcomings.

Any comments on my using turnkey MW versus installing it on say CentOS?

Only that it is very easy on CentOS 6. No idea what real benefit Turnkey would offer over it.

Yeah. We've talked about that too.

Not that dramatic. Self hosted works out to more than $4/mo unless you cut ridiculous corners like having no backup or no SmartHost. But you can self host under $12/u/mo normally.

I think half this place is trying to stay GF now.
