I would sprint to a dumb phone that only had Signal on it.

Training sites?
I have had an active account with safari books online, now oreilly, for quite a few years. I have transitioned away from development to more of a hardware position. Hardware, networking, operating systems, phone systems etc,
Does anyone have a suggestion for, a website that would be comparable to Oreilly? Not necessarily looking for free.
This has probably been covered but thought it might help someone new to the group. Thanks.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Working out the logistics of adding a WI-fi ISP for fail over of phones and data. Both of our current ISP's come into the building on the same pole..... We are in an industrial area...... Telephone poles on corners are snacks for semi tractor trailers.....

@Texkonc Bad read, or toilet flapper not sealing. We have had both. Check your meter vs. bill. Replace flappers, they are cheap.

RE: Non-IT News Thread
@black3dynamite it is totally unnecessary, IMHO. Use technology and make it a waiting game. Use investigative tactics and figure out where they will be vulnerable in public. Violent action, begets violent response. It's a warrant people!!!
Rant off.

RE: Non-IT News Thread
@black3dynamite They have GOT to stop breaking down doors for warrants..... I dont care who you are, someone kicks your door in, the last thing on your mind is "They must be here about the warrant". I dont understand the logic behind kicking in a door and expecting a warm welcome and a hug.

Richard Burr: US Senate intelligence chief quits amid virus trading scandal
The Republican chairman of the US Senate intelligence committee will resign from the post amid an insider trading investigation.
Richard Burr of North Carolina would step down on 15 May, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said. It has emerged on Thursday that Mr Burr's phone has been seized by the FBI as part of the probe. The senator is alleged to have used inside information to avoid market losses from coronavirus. He and his wife sold as much as $1.7m (£1.4m) of equities in February, just before markets plunged on fears of an economic crisis.Misleading. Headline
He is only stepping down as the head of the intelligence committee. He is still a senator. THough he has previously stated he will not be seeking reelection in 2022Its pretty bad when both sides want you gone.

RE: DuoLingo Challenge
@scottalanmiller My oldest wants to take German for his foreign language requirement. I am thinking it would be good for both of us to learn it together so he gets more out of it. From the looks of it, duo lingo is the most popular. What pace should i go at? casual, regular or higher?

RE: Take Flight with Scott Alan Miller: Grand Tour of Europe 2
@scottalanmiller Kindred spirit. I have my associates degree in video electronics and production. Never used it. At the time I graduated, I didnt know anyone in the industry so it never panned out. Editing was my absolute favorite thing to do. To take the raw footage and create something out of it was very satisfying. Good for you man!!

@popester no streaming service shows porn. But yes, some content is certainly mature/rated R.
Thanks, mature/R rated. Acceptable, its a rough world out there, no need to sugar coat reality/fantasy. IMHO of course. My concern was for what i think is called hantai?? SP ??.... I may have it wrong. Dont swim in those streams. Thanks for the info.

RE: What Are You Watching Now
My oldest boy is into anime, the whole pokemon, last air bender stuff. (yes, I am old), he (we) are looking for non pornographic sources of this type of thing. He asked me about funimation? and Crunchy Roll. Without watching the stuff, how would a parent go about finding semi-wholesome sources. He has wore Netflix and Prime Video out and since it looks like they are not going back to school the binge watching will continue. Sorry if this does not belong here. Think of it as "What I (we) are watching with extra steps..... "Wubba lubba dub dub!"

I just hate there's the taint of their backdoor nonsense from a while ago
Did you just casual drop "backdoor" and "taint" in the same technical sentence?
tee-hee

@JaredBusch I like how you think about the camera placement.
This has long been a minor pet peeve of mine. When presenting/speaking, your eyes should be just off from the camera. As if someone was standing next to it.
I'm not sure which is worse, staring directly at the camera or staring sideways/down at the screen.
And you have a small ring light too.
I specifically bought this mount because it had that. I have to wear my fedroa when presenting. It is part of me after all
so I need a front light.
It seems like you could find a rectangular plate say 2"x 5" that was tapped to the threading needed to attach one end to the camera boom and place the camera "right side up" on the other. You could probably make yourself one cheap if you had the right sized Drill and tap.
Solving issues like this through garage engineering is like crack to me. Sorry to barge in on your thread. I need an intervention.

@popester I'm curious is this a Windows to Windows remote help only?
MAC To MAC and MAC to Windows and Windows to MAC. May sprinkle in some Fedora while i am at it.
I will be using it from home and from work.

What is the situation in which you will be using this?
It is actually to be able to help my two son's with their homework. Checking their work, helping them with Math if they are having issues, basically parenting from anywhere. With the current atmosphere of things, school is 100% on line. So my thought process is kind of like the way I support people at work. It is easier if I can remote into where they are working and avoid the, "Can i sit down for a moment" or the ole "no, up a little, no too far, nope too far again, you are looking for the icon that looks like a star.... yes, click it". I would like to be able to speak to them via headset and take control of the keyboard.

RE: Home schooling remote help (VNC/RDP/Whatever)
Absolutely Agree. This is for my home. Without researching (shame on me) I assumed there would be an expense. Which is not out of the question. At work we use GoToassist which works perfectly for what I do with it. So if all else fails it will probably end up being teams.
Thanks, Dash

RE: Remote workers VOIP Client VPN
Update: Sorry about it being so late. Meraki/Cisco does and will not support this format in client VPN. Which translates to, ended up being a little over 9000 in sales revenue for them. Oh well..... Big fish feed on the little fish. Disgustipated.
Thanks for all the input. Helped a bunch.

Home schooling remote help (VNC/RDP/Whatever)
Does anyone have a suggestion for "best" secure first, interactive bells and whistles second. Would be nice to use MIC to talk and share screen and control client mouse and keyboard. Thank you for any help you can offer.

RE: Remote workers VOIP Client VPN
@Dashrender That is what I am thinking too. Unfortunately, the config is being done by our 3rd party support.
I need to understand what the differences are between a Sip phone interface and a standard mobile device interface is. UGH!
