I have a server with RAM and CPU on site. I'll probably want to add some drives and see how it goes.

RE: Ubnt NVR more than 50 cameras
@Breffni-Potter They might add a few more. It's a school and they are talking about adding two more classrooms, so that could 3 or 4 more, but probably not many more than that. It also depends on if the cameras deployed in the initial roll out give them the coverage they are looking for.

I meant downloading the Unifi video software for a VM.

Ubnt NVR more than 50 cameras
I'm looking at a school that would like about 50 cameras right from the start. The UBNT NVR says it can handle 50 cameras. What do you do if you're going beyond that? Are there specs for what the VM would need if you went that route?

GPO applying when it shouldn't
I've got a printer deployment GPO that is applying to objects in an OU with blocked inheritance. I have a printers deployment GP that is linked to a physical computer OU. Then I have a RDS Server OU. In addition I have the RDS Server OU set to block inheritance just in case. The server is taking a long time to log in to and sits at "Applying Group Policy Printers policy." I did a GP result and can see it processing all the printers even through that GP isn't applied.
When I google the issue it seems that everyone else has an issue applying GPs and not the other way around. Any ideas?

RE: Firmware update for HP printers bans third-party ink
The problem with new printers is now they sell them with "starter packs" that hardly have any ink in them.

RE: Firmware update for HP printers bans third-party ink
This is just another step. On their big lasers they have been detecting if the cartridge was genuine or not and basically putting the printer in to draft mode to make the quality appear worse. Toner pirates responded by buying used toner cartridges, splitting them open, and refilling with toner. I have come across those refurbs before. it's usually a pretty bad hack job that uses little metal clamps and screws to hold it while the glue dries.

RE: ARP Traffic
Seems about right. I remember getting a Fluke LANmeter about 15 years ago and seeing all the traffic on our network in real time. I was amazed at all the broadcast traffic. Then I went in to the SNMP view on our switches. Even on the 100Mb/s switches percentage wise, the traffic wasn't measurable.

RE: Unable to connect to RDP
Is UDP and TCP enabled? I think it negotiates over TCP, and then switches to UDP.

RE: Anyone have Fixed Wireless?
@JaredBusch said in Anyone have Fixed Wireless?:
Fiber is susceptible to backhoes, while fixed wireless is not (generally).
The first wireless bridge I built was for a paving company. They wanted to connect their repair shop about 200 yards away to their main office. I said well since you have all the digging equipment, fiber is the obvious answer. They said, well we've hit fiber optic lines before and that's kind of bad word around here. What are our other options? So in went the wireless bridge.
I know a successful wireless ISP and basically in his part of the country it's cost prohibitive to get copper, let alone fiber, to his customers.

RE: UBNT NVR + UBNT cam for small school?
@scottalanmiller If ESXi won't go on there, is it possible that Xen will? I have never used Xen, so this might be time to try it.

RE: UBNT NVR + UBNT cam for small school?
I've been thinking about it for home too. I have a little Intel Atom D525 that will run Ubuntu, so maybe I can put the NVR package on that and test it out. That box doesn't support virtualization and I was just about to toss it, but this may give it new life.
Is it possible I found a good reason not to virutalize a server?

UBNT NVR + UBNT cam for small school?
I've been asked to put together a video surveillance system for a small private (and non profit) school. Any reason not to go with a UBNT NVR, UBNT ToughSwitch PoE, and as many cameras as I need?

iPad browsing history
I have a client that has an iPad from an employee. Someone claims that the end user was looking at inappropriate material on the iPad. HR/IT was brought in. The employee says he wasn't and handed the ipad over and said they weren't and to show proof. IT tried to look at the browsing history most of it was missing and the employee says they clear their history on it every time they use it.
Is there a way to find the browsing history or to search the drive for deleted pictures they way you can on a PC?

We do have a lot of spiders in Rochester, but there seemed to be a lot in and around the hotel.
We like to call them senior web designers.

RE: MS SQL export / import
I resinstalled and added the sa account this time. (I don't know if the user installed it the first time.) I did a named instance, so when I logged in I had to choose .\sqlexpress as the server. Once I did that I was able to just right click databases -> restore and select the files I had copied to the back up folder from the old server. Then it worked like it should.

RE: MS SQL export / import
So the sa account is there, but disabled. When I , it errors out with a permissions error.

I've never installed 2016 myself yet, but Microsoft provides decent instructions. The proxy account (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms190698(v=sql.105).aspx) seems to be related to the Agent, which should not be available on Express.
I think this is the part I missed:
Note that you must create a credential first before you create a proxy if one is not already available. For more information about creating a credential, see How to: Create a Credential (SQL Server Management Studio) or CREATE CREDENTIAL (Transact-SQL). -

Are you installing that new version on the machine where the old version is installed?
no, the 2016 version is on a new Windows 10 computer.
