Marcinozga, do the hardware spec's of your RPi match up with the RPi RetroPie Kit I linked earlier? Are you running RetroPie? This is the first I've ever heard of anyone complaining about lagging playing NES on a RPi. I've never run NES on a RPi, so I don't have any input. I'll find out when my RPi kit arrives. What I also wanted to mention is that you run RetroPie and Emulationstation to not only play NES, but also Atari, Genesis, SuperNES, Gameboy, etc... Not to mention playing any ROM where the NES classic would only play a specific set of games.

RE: Linux OS advice for building a SAM-SD
I just want to mention that the KVM Hypervisor does take more than Linux basic knowledge. After @JaredBusch and @scottalanmiller recommended KVM on Fedora for the SAM-SD OS I have been playing with the KVM Hypervisor on a minimal Fedora install. I was able to successfully get a working KVM Hypervisor running. I realize that I've been very spoiled with the ESXi Hypervisor. I will require a more GUI based Hypervisor setup. I played around with the virt-manager which is a nice alternative to the cli for novice Linux users. There is still too much for me to learn with KVM and I never really did find instructions that really spell it out for me. I'm trying not to use VMware ESXi. I'm going to re-visit Hyper-V 2016 standalone with a Fedora Server (with desktop) VM to be my NFS file server. I'm open to any advice or words of encouragement to re-direct my focus back to the KVM Hypervisor.

I'm using Google Keep. I love the simplicity.

RE: Linux OS advice for building a SAM-SD
@scottalanmiller I only used the Virt-Adapter GUI tool. Where I was having trouble was making KVM see my drive volume on my hardware RAID controller. I then added a network bridge. I was at the point where I was creating a new VM and KMV didn't like my network bridge. Rebooted my KVM host and she wouldn't come out of recovery. I didn't like Hyper-V when I was testing it out a few months ago. Thanks for making me aware of Scale. I will check that out.

@magicmarker said in VOIP voicemail hacked aka DISA toll fraud:
Ok, the voicemail PINs were weak which caused the toll fraud.
This, I think, answers everything. If the PINs were weak, and they weren't chosen by the provider, I see no grey area. This particular instance appears to be both legally and ethically completely on the end customer. Ensuring proper security from the end user's (employee's) perspective cannot be that of the provider.
Unless they were told that they had to do this and had the authority and expectation of firing offenders, there is no way for that to be on them. The party hiring and managing the people choosing the PINs is the responsible party.
In regards to this statement. The voicemail policy was set by the VOIP provider. The default voicemail password they pushed out to all the handsets was 1234. So it seems I do have some ground to stand on.

Looking to migrate backup service to Unitrends.
Is anyone using Unitrends to backup their infrastructure? I'm currently using Carbonite Business (formerly Evault). Carbonite has served me well overall, but it's expensive. My contract with Carbonite expires in a few months and I was researching other vendors. I looked at Veeam and Unitrends. Initially, Unitrends was going to be out of my price range, but they are now offering me free hardware to get me to switch before the end of the year. I'm leaning towards Unitrends now with all the end of the year incentives they are offering me. Anything I need to know about Unitrends, good or bad? If you are using Unitrends now, are you happy? I've gotten some feedback that the entire strategy hinges on the recovery appliance. This could be a problem if their turn around time is lacking to get a new box. I'm being told their is a 24hr turnaround in the event they need to send a new recovery appliance which is reasonable to me.

Seems like a lot of tie in. What if you don't want to use the backup appliance any longer, but want to use the cloud or vice versa?
Great point. This is the kind of insight I'm looking for.

Need a cloud hosted PBX provider, looking at Jive
I’m looking to move to a new cloud-based PBX provider. I’ve currently got 3 locations on Cisco UCS phone systems, and 2 locations are still on physical PBX’s. I’m going to need just over 100 handsets. I’m looking for the migration to be transparent to the end users with only a new phone on their desk. I’m going to need about 100 total handsets. We really don’t need many fancy features. I will need 10 Auto Attendants, some simple call groups for Customer Service that reside in of 2 of the 5 locations, and voicemail to email. These days most orders come in over email. I wouldn’t expect more than 30 people on the phone at the same time out of the 100 handsets connected. My VAR has provided a quote for RingCentral, but it seems RingCentral is overkill for our needs. My VAR has now introduced me to Jive Communications. It seemed Jive Communications was closer aligned to our needs. I was impressed with their sales staff and engineers. They do a lease to own option on the VOIP handsets and they quoted out some decently priced Yealink T42S handsets. However, I see that LogMeIn bought them, so that is making me a little sick to my stomach. Is anyone familiar or using Jive Hosted VOIP? If yes, how is the service?

PS. SQL Express has a 10GB data size limit, not 1GB. Otherwise if you are running windows I suggest MySQL as an alternative. They have a nice Workbench software that you can use to administer the db. https://www.mysql.com/products/workbench/
I said my databases are under 1GB, not that MS SQL Express has the 1GB size limit.

Correct license for a Win 10 Veeam backup server on Type-1 Hypervisor
I'm going to build a Veeam backup server. I've got Windows 10 Enterprise volume license keys with SA (per device) available in my MS VL license agreement. I'm having a hard time getting a clear answer if I can use that license as a VM on my standalone ESXi server. I understand the VL license key can be used for upgrading an OEM installation. Can I also use the license to install a Windows 10 VM Veeam backup server? The Veeam server will only be accessed for administrative purposes.

RE: Correct license for a Win 10 Veeam backup server on Type-1 Hypervisor
@scottalanmiller Really wish Veeam would do a linux appliance for the backup server. Veeam allows the backup software to install on a Win 10 OS. I get it though, I need to install it on a Server 2016 VM. Thanks for you input.

Me too, Veeam would really benefit from that. BUT, tons of their features exist by leverage Windows features under the hood to make the magic happen. So unfortunately, Windows Server licensing is just part of the Veeam ecosystem. Veeam is amazing, but this is a key factor as to why we don't just use it across the board. The cost of Veeam plus the often needed cost of Windows can make it pretty formidable for many SMBs.
I've already committed to Veeam, but after I committed, I found Nakivo which runs the backup server on a linux box. Seems like a good competitor to Veeam.

Looking at the Veeam scenario. If I create a SAM-SD as my Veeam repository for local backups. Can someone point me to what middleman software I should be looking to replicate those local backups to the cloud on the SAM-SD to Backblaze B2? This is easy with a Veeam cloud connect partner since I can do this within the Veeam console, but what about going to a third party cloud backup provider?
CloudBerry, or just a script. No special tools needed to send things to B2. B2 provides libraries for it.
Cloudberry is a backup solution itself. You would use that to manage your backup scheudles and such as well as to send the data to offsite storage.
Cloudberry does exactly what I was talking about in my previous post by the way.
I've now got my Veeam install up and going and sending backups to my SAM-SD repository (working great BTW!). I'm wanting to install the CloudBerry server client on my SAM-SD (CentOS 7) and upload my Veeam repo to BackBlaze B2 for offsite storage. I'm having trouble wrapping my head around the proper Veeam backup method to send to the SAM-SD repo and have CloudBerry upload to BackBlaze efficiently. I've currently got the Veeam backup job setup on the Forward Incremental Forever Backup Method. What is the best Veeam backup method to send to the repo that CloudBerry can upload to BackBlaze B2 efficiently, and reduce the amount of uploaded data keeping in mind CloudBerry has the Synthetic Full Backup feature that reuses the existing data stored in the cloud.

You may have better luck with SW VTL.
This seems to be what I understand you are trying to accomplish:

@scottalanmiller - Native integration in Veeam BR Update 4. That is what I have been waiting for. I have quite the setup to get backup files to Amazon S3 right now. This would simplify it and dramatically reduce the cost.
For Wasabi?
Yup-

RE: How do I replace one Domain Controller server with another and keep IP address?
Well, I'm glad I have this forum to bounce ideas off. I will plan to take everyone's advice and just promote a new Windows 2016 DC with a new name and new IP and demote the Windows 2008R2 DC1. I should be able find all the devices that have the DC1 IP address hard coded.

Cloud CyberSecurity monitoring and alerting
I’ve been researching methods to be alerted of security threats in Office 365. I’m currently using a single EMS 5 license that I assign to one global admin account that give me access to the Office 365 cloud security portal. The O365 cloud security portal does give me access to multiple alerts and you can setup events be alerted via email and even SMS. I’m curious what others are using for Office 365 cybersecurity protection and notification. I was looking at a SAAS cybersecurity company called Coronet (https://www.coro.net/). It looks like Coronet created a nice simple interface to Office 365/G-Suite to monitor security threats. Anyone familiar or know anyone that used Coronet?
