Why must a conversation be so political correct (buttercup approached) if it is clearly a jackass conversation.

I don't get involved in those, or I exit them when they take a downward turn. Not worth my time or energy.0_1467134134466_circus.jpg

Is today the first time you've met @scottalanmiller ????

      🙂

What is hilarious is how surprised people are when they meet him in person and find out that he is a really easy going guy for the most part.

The threads here seem to start with a focus, and when the issue is resolved, it often spins off into another direction of good conversation. Not always a bad thing since the conversation can continue and the OP can just stop watching if need. Where other sites discourage that, which doesn't make sense cause you really don't need to start a new topic for every conversation shift. But I digress.

It is better that things get forked than continue in the original thread if they diverge too far. Otherwise, it makes it impossible to tag and find later.

One thing that makes ML special compared to other communities is exactly that. Problem solved, but the discussion may go on often talking about other aspects that are somehow related to the OPs question. @JaredBusch is right, this is a problem due to (additional) content not being tagged and therefore hard to find in the future. On the other hand, I think that this is what drives the community.

The kind people of the @Mods group started to fork threads lately when there is an interesting discussion that may be good to keep around, correctly tagged.

Right, additional organic conversation is great. Just once it diverges enough it is better forked just for the tagging and searchability.

If NodeBB would add tagging for individual posts in a thread that would be great.

A "vote-for-fork" feature could also be a good idea.

A vote for fork is vote away from spoon! #dontbesheeple

    • RE: Where do you see Microsoft in 5, 10, and 15 years?

From a financial perspective the Surface has not been a failure: http://www.cnbc.com/2017/01/26/microsofts-nadella-says-surface-sales-growing.html.

I see Microsoft phasing out the OS side of its business. I don't know how long that is going to take, but I believe that is the only way for them to stay in business long term.

I'd love to see Active Directory for Linux.

Not to mention your Avatar is a Sesame Street character.

Not to be too pedantic, but the Muppets != Sesame Street 🙂

    • Linux system profiling software

I'm looking for a way to get system performance profiles over time on servers installed on bare metal. We have a number of production systems that were cobbled together by devs that I need to move toward virtualizing if possible. To do that I need to get a good idea of what their processor/RAM/IOPS actually are currently. Is there anything that I can run locally on several servers running Ubuntu 14.04?

I went once to SW and it was a good time meeting everyone in person. The event itself was a waste of time. There was one halfway decent break out session and rest was about marketing/sales face time. I did come away with a laptop though, so I had that going for me.

      @Kelly Good luck with that.

Thanks. The primary threat to this plan (other than my age and level exercise) is a three year old bundle of energy who has two settings: off and high. Luckily she will sometimes sit in my lap and "help" me play games sometimes.

@kelly In what way is your DC using certificates?

Domain Controller Authorization and Domain Controller.

I ended up just deleting the certs within CertMgr on the DCs themselves, and then requesting new ones. It appears to have fixed the problem.

How valuable is an exchange cert going to be generally with everyone moving to hosted solutions?

Not terribly imo. If you're interested in working for the military you might be able to find an Exchange job, but they're getting fewer and further between. I had a SysAdmin job up that was mostly Linux and macOS, and at least half of the applicants were Exchange admins.
