For consumer level backup, use consumer level tools. If your family just needs backup of their documents and pictures why not just use any one of the innumerably free consumer products, Google Drive, OneDrive, DropBox, etc.?

      Limited central management functionality.

I guess some of us are more gluttons for punishment than others... 🙂

I don't support family computers more than the quick fixes I do when I'm there or in emergencies.

Had some time to myself last night and whipped through a few movies: Swordmaster (Chinese movie), Doctor Strange, and Kubo.

Wasn't Kubo fantastic? I love that movie.

We liked the movie, but it is an American movie.

That was a bit disconcerting to me before I mentally shut off the running critique and just watched it. I think what pushed me over the edge was Matthew McConnaughey's voice for Hanzo. That being said, I was able to enjoy it for what it was once I got over that.

    • RE: MAC MDM Management

The main one is Jamf. They're probably the top of the line, and the most fully featured. That comes with a cost. If you're willing to take Apple's headaches on yourself you could go down the profile manager path. It is a bit twisty, and it isn't clear how long support will continue for it since it relies on macOS Server.

There are quite a few options, but none that do both that I am aware of.

It's so funny that you posted this. I just thought about this while on my way to work today. I was also wondering what the consensus would be.

      Great minds, etc. etc.

I've made it up to season 4 of Supernatural, to episode 15. I'm going to have to get the next couple seasons ready on my Plex box soon. It will be a sad day when I get to the end of the full seasons, though I do have Iron Fist on deck, and I'll need to catch up on Agents of Shield (I'm always a season behind).

I canceled my DirecTV subscription. Just not using it....

I haven't heard great things about Iron Fist, but I hope everyone is wrong.

Same Marvel formula. Confused, but powerful, main character goes to fight evil. Finds out what he believes is wrong. Sort of. There's a betrayal of some kind. Then a twist. And there is someone you just hate.

On the plus side Faramir is the villain.

Wow is the DOL not involved in IT. No wonder the government can't hire IT at all. Look at the job role descriptions. Nothing we do in IT is realistically covered and there is a whole category of job titles for jobs that haven't existed in decades.

You don't really mean that. I spend most of my day just loading cards into mainframes. </s>

And you almost got away from the EU before this hit you.

While other states might think CO is the Netherlands of the US, I'm not that close to the EU 😄

I am actually pursuing this because I am thinking this may affect US companies more than they realize.

    • RE: GDPR Resources

Taking a step back from the cost of going from where we to GDPR compliance, or the enforce-ability of the regulation on non EU companies, I like the premise of GDPR. There is nothing in US law that even comes close to protecting the privacy of citizens. There may be overreach, and things that are impossible from a technical/cost perspective, but it is fundamentally a step in the right direction in my opinion.

@kelly I should clarify my OP, the users are disabled but mail accounts are still active.

Ah, good clarification. My approach with email was to export user's email to a pst, remove the account and add their address as an alias to their replacement or their boss. Eventually the boss would ask for it to be removed entirely.

However, I don't think there is any law that you're violating with email. It is expensive, but not terrible. As GDPR goes in to effect next month that might change if you have data containing PII from EU citizens.

      So I'm in the uk.

Take the first link as an example for VMware workstation.

As a home user if I bought that @ £18 am I legally in both UK and US law to use it?

What if I'm a business and want to use it?

Since you're still a citizen of the EU, the EU court ruling applies to you. Perpetual licenses can clearly be resold legally. When it leaves the jurisdiction of the EU it becomes more murky, but more because software makers don't want it clarified because US courts would likely arrive at the same conclusion as the EU court.

haha, but I'm not in front of a mac computer

@DustinB3403 There is nothing there that indicates that I am using a mac, nor would I use a mac for IT purposes. Its not needed for this scenario. I'm sure there are purposes for them, but its not here. Again, what indicates that I am using a MAC?

The screensaver on the monitor is the default Apple screen saver. Hence why I posted about you using a Mac. . . .

      That assumes way too much
