RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@coliver said in What Are You Doing Right Now:
My site on C@C came up again after 9 months of outage with no way to recover. Although now it goes down every 8 minutes exactly and comes up 3 minutes later. Almost preferred the full outage.
Wondering if I should waste my time spinning up a test freepbx box at cloudatcost as I have unused servers there? Granted its testing/learning only so don't care if they suddenly go belly up on me

RE: Stuff I Am Finding When Cleaning
my Dad has a working 8" drive! He also has a working dual drive (5.25 and 3.5 in 1 drive). We just tested it about a month ago we were able to read a disk from 1994 that I think had my brother's term papers on it!

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Its not so bad for us we always have a case of bottled water around. Sh'es boiling up some and storing it right now. Worst case her mom's 20 min away and not affected so we can get water there

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Boil Water advisory issued for my town. Had a break in a 36" main overnight. Could be 3-4 days before the order is lifted.

RE: Open Broadcaster Software and Skype for Business
I'll ping my SfB experts here and see what if anything they come back with. I am interested in this as well as we are a SfB partner and would be an interesting new direction to go

RE: XenServer passing 9-Pin serial to specific VM
I actually found my original notes on the project at the time. This was the site I referenced and amazingly it is still posted!:
http://svintinner.blogspot.com/2008/09/adding-serial-port-to-vm-on-esxi.html.
My difference was I used a real digi 8 port Terminal adapter but it supported the real port divers -
RE: XenServer passing 9-Pin serial to specific VM
Thats the beauty of serial to IP, so long as the server can get to the IP of the serial adapter who cares which host its on (when serial to IP WORKS of course)

RE: XenServer passing 9-Pin serial to specific VM
Can you use a Serial to IP converter of some sort? I did this with an old Digi Port server I had laying around and their software under Hyper V for a 2003 server we needed a serial port on and it worked for what we needed at the time

Prepping for my "Poke and Prod" meeting with my boss...AKA...Annual Review. First one I've gotten in 2-3 years

RE: Really, I work in the middle of nowhere.
I get that and it stinks. Verizon ran Fios Fiber through my neighborhood (literally the poles in my backyard) to interconnect 2 parts of the local town. But because my neighborrhood wasn't technically part of the town no franchise agreement and therefore stuck with cable and their crappy service and lines. Glad i moved

Ahh..and now I see why you have the bandwidth you have.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
I have hot water "boiler" heat and kicking myself in the a$$ that I did not get an indirect hot water tank installed when I replaced the boiler when we moved in. My wife's uncle last week offered me a slightly used indirect tank if we want it for free (his 2 kids grown and gone does not need as much hot water, it they went tankless and are fine). Contemplating but would be self install

Preaching to the choir. Its on my list of things to discuss with my manager at my review next week. Right now we have to run on-prem as we support many enterprises also running on-prem and we have to eat our own dog food so to speak.

RE: How are you SIP-ing?
We sell Carrier Services and usually size based more on the number of calls not the number of people. 30 simultaenous calls should be easy on any good (read: true business class) Internet circuit. @scottalanmiller has the bandwidth nailed on the head above. We di try and get users to get the best Upstream bandwidth which for cable modem installs around here is very difficult (Time Warner only offers 5Meg UP even in Business Class which is pathetic).
For our needs internally we needed well over 100 simultaneous call paths. We went with a dedicated circuit to a Rochester based cough carrier cough and a backup trunk over an Internet circuit. While bandwith has never been an issue lets just say I can't wait for the contract for the cough carrier to expire so that we can port and go to the Internet for our needs and dump them! -

Oh man, someone left me another IBM/Lenovo piece of $hit at my desk. Since when did I become the dumping ground?
