    • RE: Was It the Last IT Guys Fault

      I have had a very similar experience with SMB companies as well. It's always the last guy's fault, but then you realize it's really the company's fault. Either they don't have enough of a budget, the pay sucks, or you're working 60-70 weeks just to keep your head above water. Most likely all 3.

    • RE: Looking to ditch windows at work....

      Wanna know something really cool?

      Many of you know I have taken on the initiative to get 100% away from Windows at work on my company system. I have come across many challenges and have been able to overcome everything.

      Yesterday my team lead approached me and said he really liked what I did with Fedora. He believes that the rest of IT security team should no longer use Windows. It is a goal we are going to work towards. He recommended that I met with our Linux team and we are going to look at using Red Hat satellite to PXE boot Fedora images to replace Windows in various areas!

      What makes Hyper-V a valid option in production environment? It seems lacking compared to other virtualization options.

      Is there something with Windows licensing that makes attractive?

      Let's leave politics at the door and talk about his as if an election wasn't going on. How do you feel about Hillary's blatant disregard for handling classified emails. It sure seems to me like anyone else in this predicament would be at a minimum stripped of their security clearances and probably face jail time.

      Maybe it is my Windows virtual machine!

      I always fix my KVM to use /home/virtualmachines for the VMs. 🙂

      I decided to delete it. I am able to RDP into Windows if I need it anyway. My total disk size is only 128GB. So I dont really have room for a 30GB VM anyway.

      My Chuwi is still running strong. I love this device. I am working on rooting android on it.

      I am also thinking of doing a Linux installation to do a triple boot boot Windows, Android, and Linux.

    • Wazuh Agent Install - CentOS

      Add CentOS repository

      cat > /etc/yum.repos.d/wazuh.repo <<\EOF
      [wazuh_repo]
      gpgcheck=1
      gpgkey=https://packages.wazuh.com/key/GPG-KEY-WAZUH
      enabled=1
      name=Wazuh repository
      baseurl=https://packages.wazuh.com/3.x/yum/
      protect=1
      EOF

      Install agent

      yum install -y wazuh-agent

      Disable automatic updates for agents

      sed -i "s/^enabled=1/enabled=0/" /etc/yum.repos.d/wazuh.repo
      yum update

      Copy ossec.conf file for agent configuration settings.

      I used this area to push an automatically configured ossec.conf file down to client
      You can manually edit /var/ossec/etc/ossec.conf

      Add agent to wazuh server using SSL

      systemctl restart wazuh-agent
      /var/ossec/bin/agent-auth -m 192.168.1.1
      systemctl restart wazuh-agent

      My website had a massive performance increase when I moved from apache to nginx. I also decided to handle caching myself using nginx instead of doing cloud flare. What a massive performance increase.

      I would recommend anyone who has a WordPress site to try test nginx and nginx caching.

      It is looking like we will have a mandatory evacuation where I live. I am located on an island so a hurricane isn't exactly good news for me. Hopefully the storm switches off it's current path.

    • RE: Help with sed insert from file

      Found the answer here:
      https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/32908/how-to-insert-the-content-of-a-file-into-another-file-before-a-pattern-marker

      sed 's/CHANGEME/$x/g' origfile | x="$(<file2insert)" envsubst '$x' > newfile

      This will replace every CHANGEME occurence in origfile with the content of file2insert. Remove last g from sed to replace only the first occurrence of CHANGEME.

    • RE: Preparing for the storm

      I am finally getting a chance to sit behind a computer for a bit

      First of all we are ok and our house sustained zero damage. Not a shingle missing or any water breaches. So we are beyond thankful for that. We also never lost power during the storm which is absolutely unreal. I have been through a nearly a dozen tropical storms and 3 hurricanes. Every single one even inland we lost power. We lost power at my parent's place 50 miles inland.

      The storm strengthened to a large category 4 and was predicted to be a category 5 by landfall. The eye was on track to hit us directly. About 3 hours before landfall the storm weakened and pulled offshore. This saved us from certain catastrophic damage and flooding. We got 117 MPH winds were I was at. The weather experts say at 125-135MPH winds catastrophic flooding would have occurred.

      Merritt Island looks really good considering the power of the storm. The media hype is worse than it really is. Only a few houses in my neighboorhood are missing a few shingles. No houses seem damaged and I have driven around most of the island. The only damage is trees and fences. Every traffic light is still up. Docks and boats are destroyed and there is some flooding in areas directly on the water, but overall the island held up quite well.

      The best way to learn is by forcing yourself to do everything on powershell. It might be a little slower at first, but once you really get it you can remember alot of commands and use help much more effectively for stuff you don't have memorized.

    • Florida Highway Patrol chases down Miami Cop at 120mph

      So this Miami cop is weaving in and out of traffic going 120mph. A florida state trooper decides that is dangerous and he is breaking the law for no reason. So she flips on her siren and chases him down. The chase lasts for about 4 mins as the cop continues running at 120mph (all in a marked Miami cop car) from the FHP officer. He finally stops and she pulls a gun on him and arrests him.

      After all that, other cops are mad at this female officer and start threatening her. She had Miami cops block her driveway and patrol constantly on her dead end road.
