Configuring IP Cameras From One System To Another
I convinced management to combine all of our IP Cameras into one single Milestone system. We have about 10 cameras on Milestone and 26 Amcrest Cameras across 5 DVRs. Before this, I tested two of our existing IP Cameras (Amcrest) on the current Milestone system and they were discovered and worked perfectly.
I migrated the old system into the new PC and it is working. It found all the existing cameras on the previous Milestone system. So, I am starting to bring in the Amcrest IP Cameras (Again, they worked during testing) and running into a few issues.
Just to preface, I am a Jack of all IT Trades but not an expert in networking.
First off, the existing Milestone Cameras are in a machine shop and they call come to a PoE switch in the shop and back into the office in a single cable to the Milestone system on a 192 network. I put that cable into another PoE switch with another one leading back to the Milestone system and it works great and sees all the existing Milestone cameras we had before.
The first Amcrest system I want to bring in has 4 cables into my server room. I plugged them into that PoE switch, went back into Milestone and scanned for them and it didn't find them. So using this IP camera called CONFIG TOOL,. I tried plugging them into another PoE switch with my laptop and still couldn't find them.
I went back into the Amcrest DVR and these cameras grabbed 10.1.1 addresses, assuming assigned by the DVR. I tried changing it to a 192 but it required a default Gateway and usually don't use one for 192.
So I am kind of stuck right now...I do believe if I can get these 4 cameras from 10.1.1 to a 192 address, then I should be able to plug into that switch and have Milestone find them, correct? And am I doing the Config Tool testing backwards?

RE: Certifications
Great topic as I thought about getting a few myself. Leaning toward Microsoft 365, Azure, Cloud, etc...for sure want to finally get my Network+ (love Mike Myers instruction for this)...

My take on all the SW stuff (as a persona non grata) is that I could just show up in Austin during the festivities and have a blast without a conference ticket. I know most of the cool kids, why spend 200 bucks to get vendor assaulted?
I was actually thinking about this. I usually got more value from the after events then I did from the conference.
I went last year not knowing if I'd get in just to do the after parties, but got welcomed in so did the full conference. But having been many times, the after events alone are worth the trip to Austin during the conference.
And remember, the "after" events start TWO days before the official conference. Things like the East Siders event, the Salt Lick event, the Scale boat and others are often (but not always) outside of the conference start and stop dates and times. Plus there are loads of Spicehead meetups. So if are looking for ways to make it valuable, you can easily spend six days there and get loads of value and never go into the conference.
But honestly, once you are getting the flight, hotels, etc. just spend $99 and eat your other meals with everyone else.
I immediately asked to go next year...our President said he wants to make it a regular thing, but wants to "see how things are" closer to the next one...regardless, I'll take it as PTO...I'm going back...

Still up in the air? Or do you mean these events?
Those events. I'm in Austin right now.
Cool, I get there tonight.
Safe travels...

Alas, any conference I attend is out of my (LLC’s) pocket. So, my current attendance is restricted to MangoCon
I'm excited the owner of the company let me go again this year...my direct manager and the office manager aren't too thrilled though...

@garak0410 A friend of mine has a phobia of claymation as a result of things similar to this
One of my earliest memories was this sketch...the anticipation of that "green bean" looking "Jester" walking up and sticking his face in front of the screen like that and getting smashed was quite something...
I heard about some kind of Mark Twain Claymation that is very morbid...features Satan among all things...

Traumatizing Muppets
Did anyone else find some of the Sesame Street Muppets from the classic days quite disturbing as a kid? I used to dread the "King of 8" sketch as this monstrosity would always appear at the end and then get crushed by a huge number 8...

Update...
We were able to get out of the contract and surprisingly, Verizon fixed their tower and we are back on the Pepwave again.

My first order of business - When on WiFi at his home/lodge, the app for his Milestone cameras says "Cannot Connect To Server"...I verified this and sure enough, when on the WiFi here, it won't connect. If I jump to 4G, it connects...if I use my home WIFi or at work it connects. Any suggestions on what to check to see why it is only being blocked on the WiFi here? Something in the UniFi GUI that I could fix? Or the new router I purchased?
Where is the 'server'? is is something on that network at his house? or something in the cloud?
Does accessing the internet work for things like gmail?
Milestone server is a PC located in one of his 3 switch rooms on a 192.168.1.10 address. It has always broadcasted to a the Milestone XProtect Mobile app. And it still does. Just won't connect to the DNS name when on the local WiFi...if you drop to 4G, it works...if back on WiFi and I set a connection to that 192 address, it works...just not with the primary DNS name when on his WiFi.

600ms isn't untenable. Can't do phone calls but with some proper setup you can get a lot of things working decently well.

But now reality hits...Satellite Internet isn't all that great...it for sure does have the "Click, wait, bam" result and uploads do struggle...he will let me know how it goes tonight...
Newer ones get pretty good. Older ones tend to be terribly slow.
The currently available ones are still rather slow. 600-800ms, which is better than the original 3000+. The ones with good latency aren't available yet
Yeah, it is pretty bad right now...he has me coming back tomorrow to see if I can make it any better.
These are the expected speed. Satellite guy can't fix this without telling you to not use their satellite. 600ms is the standard for "really good" satellite today. At 587, you are getting "better than expected", not worse.
Satellite at 587 is worse than 1.5 meg (forgot it's ms speed) on our other service. So, I may be seeing if we can get out of the contract as the CEO complains that it is virtually unusable at his home/lodge now. I am heading there around 8:30 to check it out. I do know than when I connect via Teamviewer from here, it is noticeably laggy.
Of course - realtime would be horrible at that lag - As Scott already mentioned that VOIP would be unusable.
I think it is time to use his power, name and money to get something better brought out there.

His house is pretty much going to take up my day tomorrow and perhaps rest of the week and I don't have a clue as to the cause of the latency at this time...will try a few other things tomorrow...

Seems like a blatant misuse of resources
Private company...we all own stock...I am truly the "Jack of all trades IT" person for the business and his home. As mentioned, he did hire someone who only does cabling and networking who originally set up his home...but I guess he wants to save a service call with him...and to be honest, and I've let management know, I'm falling behind at work.
