@scottalanmiller as a side note, one of the most reported issues with osTicket under CentOS is that SELinux has some rules that conflict with some of the AJAX requests. If you get a white bar or find that something doesn't work you would want to check your logs to see if that's whats happening.

Thanks for the tip. I've not seen anything with CentOS 7 yet.

I ran into it following your guys to get this installed... I had to

      chcon -t httpd_sys_rw_content_t /var/www/html/helpdesk -R

To get it to make it past the setup where it was checking to see if the config file was writeable.

@dafyre What are the chances that the server won't restart properly?

If it found just a few bad ones, it won't be a big deal, but if it found a lot, yeah, I'd live migrate the VMs off before rebooting, lol.

      My car isn't working.

      Have you tried starting it?

No, it's off for a reason, I don't want to drive it.

      Um... what?

About 10 years ago we had a customer who said his computer wasn't turning on and he didn't have internet access. Well, it was a bad power supply, easy fix. After it turned on I asked "so, what was your Internet issue?" and he said "Well, it'll go on the Internet now that it's turning on."

What? Really? Seriously? That's like saying your tires are flat because your transmission is shot.

I did some work for a Truck Stop a few times... When I gave them analogies using their words, they were like, "Oh, well, that's stupid..."

Then I'd explain to them that was exactly the way they were doing their computer. Then the lightbulb came on and I never had to help them with that particular problem any more, lol.

    • Meraki MX400 NAT Question

      Hey All,

I am posting this for a friend... Basically, he has a network with 4 vlans....
      VLAN 10: 192.168.10.0/24
      VLAN 20: 192.168.20.0/24
      VLAN 30: 192.168.30.0/24
      VLAN 40: 192.168.40.0/24

In the past at his employer, the networks were set up so that traffic leaving the network would have a different public IP address, depending on what VLAN it came from. They recently switched to Meraki and are now seeing a need to set this back up again.

Traffic from vlan 10 (192.168.10.0/24) would go through the firewall and wind up on public address 90.38.27.5.

      VLAN 20 would get 90.38.27.6
      VLAN 30 would get 90.38.27.7
and VLAN 40 would get 90.38.27.8

Is there a way to set this up on the Meraki? I have never seen a "business class" firewall unable to do this.

*these IP addresses are totally made up and not real IP addresses.

Well... Pops and I went through the house with a find toothed comb. We can't figure out where all the smoke was coming from last night. Nothing smells like it was burning or anything.

We did find a bad circuit breaker but it's a chicken & the egg scenario... Did the circuit breaker blow and cause all the smoke... or did something else cause all the smoke and blow the circuit breaker... Found a couple of power outlets that needed to be replaced, and did that. Other than that, all is clear.

      Wow...what a night.

The problem is that with 99% of the companies out there that don't display at least ball park pricing are two fold (as I see it)...

      1. It IS costing you customers. Most of us assume that if you don't show your pricing, then your product is too expensive.

      2. If we give out any contact information at all, the sales reps begin to hound us relentlessly. No thank you.

Bit error is 1 in 10^19 bits (enterprise HDDs are 1 in 10^15). That's actually 10,000 times better than HDDs. And 30 years of archival properties.

yeah, the tech behind LTO8 is freaking fantastic. And unlike HDD where research is stagnating, tape keeps advancing.

I still haven't seen anything that scales like tape. Just keep adding drives and tapes as needed till you're into silly town: https://spectralogic.com/products/tfinity-exascale/

      Quick! I need tapes 39,763 and 40,659!

Just read a blurb from the AP WIRE that a Samsung Galaxy 5 caught fire in France.

It was reported this morning. Just now seeing it.

One could say that Samsung is.... going down in flames?

Why? Just because they are now collecting exploding washing machines in the US? You know: It's a not a bug, it's a feature.

Free house insurance claim with every purchase! But wait, there's moooorrrrreeeeeee! No Flamable washing machine is complete without your very own Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Guaranteed to catch fire, even in the mildest circumstances.

Goodness, Gracious, Great Balls of Fiiiirrrre! Get a new car when you perfectly place your Galaxy Note 7 (or Galaxy 5) on your driver's seat while leaving it on to charge.

fine print: Warranty void when said fire happens on day that ends in Y, or if it happens while Wild Buffalo trample through your kitchen.

@openit Pihole with the upstream DNS of your choice.

      https://pi-hole.net/

Keep in mind that you'll have to either block all dns at the firewall (except the pi-hole) or force all queries to redirect to the pi-hole if you want absolute visibility and control. If you're OK with the possibility of queries bypassing your DNS then this part doesn't need to be dealt with.

The issue with Pi-Hole or any other DNS solution for most shops is that they are AD based. This means that DNS has to point to the AD server. The AD server can then point to Pi-Hole, and this works well. But it breaks his visibility requirement as everything appears to come from the AD server.

Why coudln't you point Pi-Hole to your AD DNS, and then let AD's DNS point to Cloudflare or whoever?

At least 3 of you know exactly what that smells like.

I love the smell of solder-flux in the morning? Wasn't that a movie?

[...] @thwr, I think the same thing, but that stuff isn't good for you.

      says who? 🙂

      Lifespans.

I knew someone who died at the age of 40 years. He was very sporty (is that actually a word or is the dictionary kidding me?), used his racing bike to get to work (40km per direction) every day and so on. My great-grandfather on the other hand still smoked cigars and pipe at the age of 90.

So much for "estimated lifespans" 😉

Wouldn't that backup my song choice tho? "Only the good die young"

      Wouldn't that mean my great-grandfather wasn't a good guy? 😉

That's what he is implying, yes.

What does good mean in this case?

Evil will always triumph because good is dumb?

So the good is dumb that's why they die?

That, or they got stuck with a red shirt.

      Happy Monday everyone!

      mumble mumble, growl.

My bank account is exceedingly not happy. As Pops and I were trying to fix the fridge on Saturday (just a water line broke), we happened to notice some oil leaking around the compressor.

We got the water line replaced and plugged the fridge back up, and started smelling something that smelled like food cooking.

We ignored it and went back to working on the fridge. That is when we noticed the magic smoke escaping from the compressor or the relay that turns it on or off.

Got a new fridge from the local Lowes. Turns out it's a Samsung... I got my fire insurance all updated now, just in case, lol.
