As this is an appliance, how does the transfer of support work in this situation?
Paging @scale to answer.
Support doesn't transfer, so you'd have to purchase a new contract/renewal. We offer a "recertification" service for this type of transaction where the nodes are shipped to us to make sure everything is still up to our standards before we can provide support/warranty on the hardware. I believe it is $500 per node (which I think includes the cost of shipment).

RE: Introducing the Single Node Scale HC3 Appliance
@dafyre you could run 2 single nodes and have them failover manually using the replication, but for high availability in a single cluster, it would need to go from 1 to 3 currently.

RE: Can VirtualBox VMs Be Imported Into Scale HC3
@stacksofplates for HC3 Move it is actually in partnership with Vision Solutions. The full name is HC3 Move Powered by Double-Take...Double-Take Move being the product we are OEM-ing for that.
We have played around with virt-v2v and virt-p2v, but haven't integrated them in the product yet.

RE: Can VirtualBox VMs Be Imported Into Scale HC3
@scottalanmiller Yeah, that's correct. You would have to convert the virtualbox image to qcow2 using a tool like qemu-img and then follow the steps to import (...create a VM on HC3, export it, copy over the exported qcow2 with your newly converted qcow2, import). I can't say that I have done it, but would be happy to play around with the process if it is helpful.
There are also tools like HC3 Move which would do this conversion without much downtime. For this tool you install HC3 Move in a VM running on HC3 and the source (virtualbox in your case)...it then continuously captures byte-level changes and transfers them over to HC3. Once the initial synchronization is complete, it continues replicating changes until you tell it to cut over at which point it shuts down the source and restarts the target VM on HC3.

RE: Job Posting: Operations Coordinator at Scale Computing
@travisdh1 Not really a management position today, but perhaps in the future. It is definitely a lot for 1 person to do, but such is life in a startup

RE: Scale Computing Brings First Fully Featured Sub-$25,000 Flash Solution to SMB Market
@Dashrender the HC1150 is shipping with Samsung's SM863 today. As with all of the components we ship in our appliances, we are constantly looking for alternatives that can offer similar performance/endurance/price to protect customers (and our company) against supply chain issues. So a blanket "subject to change" statement is probably warranted.

RE: Scale Computing Brings First Fully Featured Sub-$25,000 Flash Solution to SMB Market
@Dashrender standard off the shelf drives that we pool together with our software to manage as a tier to protect against failures etc
-
RE: Scale Computing Brings First Fully Featured Sub-$25,000 Flash Solution to SMB Market
@Dashrender mlc in the new HC1150s, higher endurance SLC in the HC2150/HC4150

They've got maybe 12 installs when I last checked. Versus how many non Scale deployments.
12? I know more than that many customers personally. They have lots of deployments.
Thanks @scottalanmiller. We have 1500+ cluster deployments worldwide (https://www.scalecomputing.com/press_releases/record-growth-in-2015-for-scale-computing/). I don't think we've made any statements on the UK specifically that I can point to, but I'd be happy to put you in touch with any existing customers in the area.

@dafyre i cannot confirm nor deny @aaronstuder let me know / send me a DM if you want to jump on a call to go through our roadmap. I'd love to learn more about your requirements for a lower end solution.

RE: The Four Things That You Lose with Scale Computing HC3
@MattSpeller The best place is probably just clicking around through http://www.scalecomputing.com/ as a starting point. If you want to see it in action though, we have a weekly demo that our office of the CTO usually runs:
It is pretty informal and gives a chance for a lot of questions to be answered as we show the UI/features. Let me know if there are any questions I can answer in the meantime!

RE: Scale Radically Changes Price Performance with Fully Automated Flash Tiering
@Breffni-Potter We have a UK office with a number of local resellers (who actually provide value beyond pushing boxes ). I have reached out to some of our local Systems Engineers to jump into the thread to make an introduction. They should be able to coordinate a time/place for you to see one. In the meantime, we do offer a weekly demo as well (http://bit.ly/HC3LiveDemo).

RE: Scale Radically Changes Price Performance with Fully Automated Flash Tiering
@Breffni-Potter SSD, not SSH (good catch). The product is designed for the IT generalist of small to mid-size businesses who doesn't have the time to specialize in every aspect of the infrastructure necessary to stand up a traditional virtualization environment. You can go from unboxing to spinning up new VMs in < 1 hr. Very "click click and go" as you guessed.
-
RE: Scale Radically Changes Price Performance with Fully Automated Flash Tiering
@Breffni-Potter TL:DR - We (Scale) introduced SSDs next to NL-SAS drives in our HC2000 and HC4000 platforms with some awesome new tiering functionality.

RE: Explain Hyperconvergence Like I Am Five
How about a 4 year old? A few years back, one of our Sales Engineers had his 4 year old daughter create a VM on HC3...the result is cuteness overload:

RE: Where Did Nimboxx Go?
@marcinozga Scale is working with a handful of Nimboxx customers to try to give them a net to fall into. I hate to see people burned by a failing startup. Here's a link to our products page that highlights our HC3 product:

Let me know if you're interested in learning more about the product/Scale for that next refresh and I'd be happy to walk through a demo etc.- Craig Theriac, Director of Product Management @ Scale Computing
