Arjun Sud is now aware that using complex passwords and adding two-factor authentication can reduce security risks, but had not known about the option before.

      I'll just leave this here.

    • RE: What are your sales email no-nos?

Never, ever, ever... ever say that the marketing email is a follow up to a recent conversation. I rarely talk to sales people and when I get the "Hey how you doing we talked yesterday about this product, and you seemed interested." emails when I haven't talked to anyone on the phone for a week... that is very annoying. Seriously this gets you put on the spam list.

The other one I've gotten only once was, "Hey we talked to your boss and he wanted us to talk to you about purchasing our product." Don't do this either...

I'm recruiting at the moment and the job ad asked for a covering letter. Despite this being a requirement in the ad, pretty much no-one included one, which has pissed me off. Basically, either people couldn't be bothered to write one, or they couldn't be bothered to read the ad properly.

My POV is I have tons of experience and this is a tech job not one that needs elegant writing. I don't need to beg for your particular job when I have others I am applying for. Look at my resume and interview me and you will see how valuable I am.

I agree whole heartily with this, we aren't English majors or people who's jobs rely on soft-skills (although those are helpful) we are entirely technical people with a technical job. Our resumes should cover almost everything that we have done and a cover letter really isn't going to add value to it. On top of that if you are interested in the resume then you could easily find out what a cover letter would go over in an interview which, I think, is a much more straight forward and honest means of determining if a person is right for the job.

@Minion-Queen said in What is the general opinion of non-standard business card formats?:

Ok being that the cards in question are from a marketing firm (these will be cards for ML/GS) do you expect to see a weird card or does the don't give me a weird shaped card thing still apply?

Don't give me a weird shaped card. I'm still going to bin it but at least it will make it home/to the office.

@coliver I've done work for a few doctor's offices around here. They've switched to Medent for their medical records. They deploy on-site CentOS servers, but their clients are only Windows based. I haven't seen the back end, so it could possibly be just an Oracle or DB2 server, but why develop on Linux and then not have a Linux client?

I'm always more surprised that companies are still making OS specific apps. It seems like programming for the web has gotten to the point where this would be almost unnecessary... especially since you then don't have to worry about the underlying OS as much.

    • RE: Can anyone recommend a job for me?

Just a general suggestion. Find an internship if you can. Most local communities and schools would be happy to have an intern if they can get one. Especially someone who shows a bit of drive. This will start to help you get contacts in the community and get you introduced to some techs in the area.

It is an onboard SAS controller that I'm trying to install in XenServer during boot. I didn't go into the details because it was just an example of a current issue, and that detail I didn't feel was germane. The XS installer is not seeing the configured arrays, only the drives themselves. Perhaps I should start a new thread...

Sounds like FakeRAID. I think @DustinB3403 and @scottalanmiller have a guide to setup MD RAID in XenServer.

@thanksajdotcom It is odd... I've learned three things about you while on SW and ML.

      1. You have a flare for the dramatic and as a result like being public
      2. You are generally the goto printer guy
      3. You have this infatuation with Taylor Swift

None of these things are bad things. Just thought I would mention them.
