I asked the same question after reading all the CEntOS love here and deploying my WordPress site on it.

Then people (cough @scottalanmiller ) were like ... why would you do that?

Only because everyone said ti was the best time and time and time again.

      Good question.

      Pretty much the same here.

As @scottalanmiller keeps telling me, it's just natively secure. 🙂 (Linux, that is.)

The OS is, yes, but he's asking about Unifi.

Considering he was mentioning things to also secure the OS, I think it's a package deal.

Change the default printer settings on your print server to black and white for each printer.

Then it will default to b&w for everyone it's deployed to.

The issue with this, though, is if the user ends up changing it to color to some reason.

It would be nice to be able to lock that setting.

We actually user a username and code with the last MFP.

That made it simple. One share had it, and one didn't.

Still trying to figure that option out on this new device.

Like I said, I am not worried about charging back.

I am just trying to prevent someone from printing out 500 pages that happen to have one letter in red or something, and costing us $20 versus 20 cents.

      🙂

    • Managing Color Printing

I was curious how everyone manages their color printing.

We have no desire to track individual users. However, we want to ensure they don't inadvertently print 100 pages in color that they wanted it in B&W.

On the previous devices, we would create a "color" printer share and a "B&W" printer share, and manage it that way. (True, a mistake could still be made, but it seemed to work great.)

What is everyone else doing? Just having the user set it in the app they print from? A similar dual print share arrangement? Or something totally different?

@jaredbusch works great with the simple change, though.

Then you might want to submit it to [email protected] or post on their forums.

They have the info on their forums too, just not easy to find. It's a configuration issue with 3.6, not an issue with 3.6 itself. Part of the defaults, I believe, were changed so you just have to change how MongoDB 3.6 starts and the Unifi is perfectly happy with it and you get a modern Ubuntu, fully managed and faster MongoDB for it all, too 🙂

Not easy to find info in UBNT forums? Wow never heard of that! They need a better way to get important info to the users. I don't know how many times there was an easy solution to a problem I had but I had to DIG through their forums to find it. Not a simple search but dig and read post after post till I found the right one.

This was right in the release note highlighted in red. How much more clear do you want?

      What are the options?

      QUESTION:

Let's say you have 3 NICs in the server, and you give them static addresses of 10.0.0.1 10.0.0.2 and 10.0.0.3

When you team them, the multiplexor adapter is created.

This then gets its own static IP address?

I keep losing connection here at this step, and I can fix it, but might be worth a small discussion on...

No, when you team them the static addressing is lost. The best thing to do is have everything DHCP and then team. The team will pull an IP and then you can make it static.

Just to confirm ... if you set them all, it means nothing?

AKA, those static addresses all disappear?

Yes. When you make a team hat has static ip on the original interfaces it tells you that that static config will be lost. But stupidly, it does not set it to dhcp either.

Actually, I think it does now. Because I ended up going to the physical console, and it had pulled a new address. Maybe that is new.
