@JaredBusch
True. VBR users have the global email reporting from v1, mainly this feature was requested by the end users without VBR repo.You may like new weekly scheduling options (including the resume of the missed scheduled backup) and of course, there are more improvements.

Sometimes it’s easier to "set it and forget it" than to explain how to use it.

RE: Backup solution for Windows
Hi folks,
Answering to the question why an end-user needs a backup with personal story and I think it makes total sense.
A real end user story: My father in law is far away from IT and the problem is he thinks he is not. He does some really crazy things on his own and then calls me…
When it is a software level (thanks to the Endpoint) it takes me a cup of coffee to roll back to the latest backup (I’ve already done it twice). I wish I could make a backup on a hardware level (since he likes to “clean” the motherboard from time to time…
The funny fact that he does not even now its running – its “some where in the tray” and backup is performed to the WD 3TB NAS box I gave him to store the photos.
I like to think that every IT guy is a one man shop for his family or close friends. What is easier: to restore from the backup or to deploy a new windows installation at your sister’s laptop looking for an activation keys stored somewhere and then installing some software she likes but can’t really say how its called (real end user story #2 btw)
P.S. This year I got all my family with WD NAS boxes and VEB installed

RE: Updating HP drivers
For me thought the question is how drivers from Microsoft differs from the original vendor’s drivers.
As far as I know, the driver needs to be certified at MS end to reach the MS shop, so at some point the freshest driver can be obtained from the vendor directly…

RE: Updating HP drivers
I know now that Windows 10 got driver auto update logic enabled by default and a lifehack when the autoupdated driver fails: How to block automatic reinstall of a driver or update from Windows Update

RE: Veeam Renewal
@Dashrender I believe first is the VBR's actual license and another is a support package you can buy it addition to the first one.

RE: Veeam Renewal
Ok, my third post in a row
V-ESSSTD-VS-P01AR-0 this is indeed the Veeam licensing package.
V-ESSSTD-VS-P01YP-0 this looks like a one additional year of maintenance prepaid for Veeam Backup Essentials Standard 2 socket bundle for VMwareBut better reach anyone from sales to confirm before purchasing

RE: Veeam Renewal
@Dashrender Quoting the licensing faq:
You can swap your licensed sockets from one hypervisor to another at any time by contacting your Veeam sales representative. To facilitate the conversion, you can get a free temporary license file with the total number of licensed sockets for both hypervisors. This will allow coexistence of environments on the same backup server. This license file is valid for three months and can be extended upon request (for large socket-count environments only). Technical support for both hypervisors is included at no charge for the temporary license duration. Only customers who are current on support are eligible for swaps.

RE: Veeam Renewal
@Dashrender I'll see what I can find.
@scottalanmiller When you used @ I did not get email notifications - is that expected?

RE: Android Wear Vs. Gear S2 (Tizen)
If you ask me - I got only one device that needs to be changed on a daily basis and I don’t need another one. My Garmin vivofit is perfect to track steps and it works with regular battery (they claim 0.5 year)
Seriously, I sometime forget to charge my phone and I can imagine why I need smartwatch then

RE: Backup to Magnetic Tape and LTO7 Thoughts
I would not say LTO reached its steady state from technological perspective (although sales among tape vendors might).
Check the LTO Roadmap – we are on LTO7 now.

RE: Backup solution suggestions wanted
@Dashrender I am sure you'll test that before the purchase, so I have almost no doubts you will decide to go with us

RE: Rapid Desktop Replacement
Though apples to apples, if I get licensing taken care of, free is surely nice.
Well, there is a license inside the backup indeed. We added some “additional care”, so once you perform a bare metal restore VEB that resides in the machine will kick of the windows activation in the background with the key from the backup.
In case its original hardware OEM should be pushed like a charm. To tell the truth I’ve even tested it with non-original machines – it was successfully activated from time to time, but, I guess that depends on the OEM, hardware vendor and MS licensing. (As a regular end user – I’ve tested ASUS to HP bare metal recovery with OEM windows 8.1 on board)
