I checked, this is all i got and then it started giving me the kill prompt!

      [root@localhost ~]# cat /etc/rc.local
      #!/bin/sh

This script will be executed after all the other init scripts.

You can put your own initialization stuff in here if you don't

want to do the full Sys V style init stuff.

      touch /var/lock/subsys/local

    • RE: Linux issue

@scottalanmiller This was created from my old linux template.

I need to update the test vm to latest version!

While checking on the errors, I found the below for the keyword "rewgtf3er4t"
      https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/29f89dc1da6da3fa2fa951c3453d63ff82eab3159020012a90763df279a75e25/analysis/

So I decided to install clamav and try, and this is the result i got:

      Unix.Trojan.Elknot FOUND

      ----------- SCAN SUMMARY -----------
      Known viruses: 3494145
      Engine version: 0.98.4
      Scanned directories: 10163
      Scanned files: 54491
      Infected files: 7
      Total errors: 2841
      Data scanned: 1349.12 MB
Data read: 1747.42 MB (ratio 0.77:1)
      Time: 100.831 sec (1 m 40 s

And as per the site http://lurker.clamav.net/message/20140521.161253.80556ece.en.html

ElkKnot (aka Elknot) is apparently a Linux Trojan associated with DDOS attacks.

The only thing I downloaded from the internet is the gitlab installation file as per the site: https://about.gitlab.com/downloads/
      https://downloads-packages.s3.amazonaws.com/centos-6.5/gitlab-7.0.0_omnibus-1.el6.x86_64.rpm

Just wondering how this could've affected the server. I was re testing the gitlab server, was up and running only for 2 hours and this happened! I forwarded the port 80 for sometime to test everything from outside but even that was not open for longer time.

    • Linux issue

      Hi all,

I have a CentOS installed on my home Xen server. The power went of and the Xen server was shutdown. Once I restarted the server, and started this centos server, during the boot process, I got the below message:
      **
      *Starting postfix: [ OK ]
      Starting crond: [ OK ]
/etc/rc3.d/S99local: line 10: ./rewgtf3er4t: No such file or directory
/etc/rc3.d/S99local: line 12: ./gfhddsfew: No such file or directory
      sh: systemctl: command not found
      sh: reSuSEfirewall2: command not found
      sh: SuSEfirewall2: command not found
      ebtables: unrecognized service
sh: /etc/init.d/ebtables: No such file or directory
      sh: ufw: command not found

      CentOS release 6.4 (Final)
      Kernel 2.6.32-358.el6.x86_64 on an x86_64

      localhost.localdomain login: usage: kill [ -s signal | -p ] [ -a ] pid ...
      kill -l [ signal ]
      *
      **
I have few other centos servers with the same specs and configuration, (all my servers are created from my centos template), all works fine except this. Even if I login to this server, it keeps promting me the kill all signal and goes on.

Couldn't find the cause/fix for this. Also I noticed that my xen server completely shuts down if I keep this VM on for a while.

      Anyone faced such issue?

    • RE: Digital asset management software

      @alexntg Just checked about DAM

From Wikipedia: Digital asset management (DAM) consists of management tasks and decisions surrounding the ingestion, annotation, cataloguing, storage, retrieval and distribution of digital assets. Digital photographs, animations, videos and music exemplify the target areas of media asset management (a sub-category of DAM).[1]

Digital asset management systems (DAMS) include computer software and hardware systems that aid in the process of digital asset management.

The term "digital asset management" (DAM) also refers to the protocol for downloading, renaming, backing up, rating, grouping, archiving, optimizing, maintaining, thinning, and exporting files.

Since the requirement is to upload contents like videos, images, logo etc and manage them, I still think it comes under digital asset management and not document management. Plus as per resourcespace site, which I think best suits the requirement, also describes it.ResourceSpace open source digital asset management software is the simple, fast, & free way to organise your digital assets

    • RE: Secure syncing tool

I am in touch with http://www.accellion.com/ and checking at the Kite works enterprise. The parent company is using a product from this, but with limited storage space, but since they already use a product from accellion, I believe getting this approved would be much easier than introducing anything new. Got in touch with the local distributer and they agreed to give us a 15 days demo so we can test this in realtime. Its a software appliance which works with vmware/hyperv. Will share more details after the demo

The requirement is to upload media contents like images, video etc tag them for easy search. I still didnt get the idea of using spiceworks for this! 😞

      Leaning more towards http://resourcespace.org/

I am still checking on other option, but resourcespace does most jobs i guess.

@scottalanmiller Got some free time/unable to get some sleep so installed it, up and running! 🙂 During the installation, got some errors and followed the fix from http://www.digitalwhores.net/tag/python-chardet/

For anyone who don't want to spend $200-400 for cpanel/WHM and don't like webmin interface, I think this would be the best bet! 🙂

Works really well, easy to install tools like munin from the plugins section. Has a terminal inbuilt like the others as well.

      @scottalanmiller Thanks a lot!

I tried a quick install, Looks interesting. Need to explore all the features.

Had an initial issue that the file upload was not working, because i didn't forwarded all ports from my home router. https://github.com/haiwen/seafile/wiki/Common-problem-in-setup-seafile-server this helped me to troubleshoot and find out the issue quickly.

The server with my android client works well. 🙂

      Hi all,

I got a requirement to look for a digital asset management software.

      Looking for the following features:
Manage media—label, categorize as per event/media type (different video formats/images/logos)
Easy search through the solution—key words, advanced options, categories, etc
Accessibility and usability—allows admins to assign and control media
      secure Cloud hosted
      Analytics and reporting

      Any ideas?
