A few years ago, I was recovering from burnout and took a helpdesk position. It was low-stress, low-workload, and extremely relaxing. Sometimes taking a step back isn't all that bad to do. If I hadn't been recruited away, I'd likely still be there.

Most of your team, perhaps? When I'm on vacation, I'm unplugged. Not doing so burned me out a few years ago, and I'm still losing the weight i gained from it.

A bit of note - You haven't been there for all too long. Unless you're a project-based or contract worker, short hops lend to look bad on resumes.

That article had some really dated (and mostly residential) thinking. A modern AV solution (of which I can only think of 2 offhand) isn't bloated, and doesn't run on definitions. Free AV isn't available to businesses in most cases, so their statement of everybody being able to have free AV's really directed at the residential market. Most residential customers would rather not pay a recurring license charge for AV and instead pay more to generic residential tech firms in order to clean or wipe their computers.

In the business world, it's still very much alive and kicking. Pricing's tighter, as it's more of a comodity now, but if a vendor can listen to the users and give them what they need with good detection and performance, there's some profit to be made.

Well I can imagine that it's a hard thing to do especially if you are involved pretty deeply in projects and other happenings. I got that way when I was working at MDC and Goodwill. It started effecting my personal life, mainly with my wife and I and family.

Understandable. It cost me relationships, friends, health, etc.

Another problem I have with using e-mail for confidential communication is the annoying habit of some users to set-up rules to forward all of their work e-mail to their personal e-mail. That's usually their personal Hotmail e-mail that uses the password "password".

That's one of the many reasons that it's important for companies to have and enforce policies that prohibit employees from using their personal email for work purposes.

yes, the DHCP is providing the correct DNS setting which is the ip of my ADC as primary DNS and the internet gateway as secondary DNS

For the branch site, the DC should be primary DNS, and the DC at your main location should be secondary. Non-AD DNS sources should not be used.

There's no difference. The admin account shouldn't be the same account used for regular daily use.

Join.me's not realy designed for remote tech support work. If you're looking to do remote tech support work, take a look at LogMeIn Rescue. It's not free, but hopefully you're charging for the work you're doing.

I completely agree join.me is not for remote support. You won't be able to see things like UAC prompts that come up while power users may be logged into the machine. LMI Rescue can work quite well as @alexntg mentions. I personally like the free version of LMI in conjunction with LMI Central (despite LMI's recent force to go to a paid version).

Yes, for supporting company-owned or company-managed computers, LogMeIn is great. It's not as good a fit for one-off support, as it involves installing the client on the machine. Rescue shines for situations where it isn't feasible to install the client on the machines you're supporting. So perhaps the question to the OP would be is this for internal/managed computers, or computers belonging to others?

I agree. In school, we were taught primarily metric, as it would be the primary measurement system by when we got out of high school. Somehow that changeover didn't happen, and I"m left wondering how many teaspoons are in a gallon.

I use Bing, primarily because I'm anti-Google. The peru map that's mentioned is listed in the "Related Searches" section, not the actual results.

That coloring is very loud, and the case shape is very familiar. Did an older Mac Pro eat a streetracing honda?

Perhaps branded laptops may be more useful? That way, clients get to see the branding when folks are onsite.
