Looking to Hire a Help Desk Tech - Best Places to Post Ad?
-
Title pretty much says it all. I am the sole IT admin and our HR Coordinator quit a month ago and my boss (Director of Operations and HR) will be on medical leave for a few weeks and he told me to get this started but haven't ever posted an ad before.
Thanks for any advice.

Find a new job where it isn't doing HR tasks. This should be his boss or someone higher in the company doing this.
-
@Jason Yeah, generally, I wouldn't be doing any of this crap, but there isn't anyone left. If I don't start the process now, it will be another month or two to add to my pile of legit work I have to do.

@wrx7m If you're in the USA most local papers will list your positions on Monster/Yahoo job boards, as well as in print in the local paper for a fee (this might have changed, I've been out of the recruiting business for quite sometime now). Post here and in the Spiceworks career group for free. You could go strait to Indeed.com and/or other job boards and post there as well. If you have zero budget, throw something on Craigslist.
Take a look at local college/university tech programs, it is intern season....

As it is, I submitted the job description to him last July. 2 months ago he said he was hiring some other people for various departments and would add it to his list but forgot about it somehow. He was also going to have the HR admin do it before she left but it didn't get done then either. I have brought it up every week for almost a year. If I don't do it now, I will be crushed or just lose my S on someone.

Posting on ML and SW can't hurt. Even if it doesn't help, it doesn't hurt.

SpiceWorks seems to charge $100 per 60 days... Am I missing something?

Yes, just post it in the career forums without listing it with them.

Oh OK. Didn't know if there was a policy against that. Didn't want to "get into trouble".

What about high school or college students? We like to hire high schoolers. Cost less, easier to train, less likely to leave, better long term potential.

@scottalanmiller - Normally I would but I am looking for someone a little less green. Someone that has at least a small amount of experience.
Edit: I am trying to lessen my workload and increase the time I have to do the higher-level work. If I have to spend time schooling someone from the lowest end of AD and hardware/software troubleshooting, then I might as well just do everything myself.

Maybe check with local universities and certification testing centers and see if you can post the opening on their boards. If you can snag someone that is a little green, has a basic certification or two, and a lot of enthusiasm; that should go a long way.

We've had good luck with interested high school students. they tend to be the best motivated.
