I picked Feb 3 for flying out... round trip from Omaha to Nicaragua was $850. From Omaha to Houston was $450, and Houston to Nicaragua was $400.
You just got some awesome pricing.
Time of year matters. February would be tourist season. The fall is not. Fall is when it is cooler here so people are less likely to fly down to hit the beach.

Wow... if I fly out of laGuardia or JFK it would be ~$500 round trip... that is surprising.
On United, I am guessing?

Yep.

Well the first one will be local to me (or semi-local at least). The first time I will be planning anything on this sheer scale so I have to be able to visit the venue and meet with everyone easily. And then get there and do it too. So this 2016 will be in the Niagara Region.

That's Buffalo for the uninitiated.

Oooh... Perfect within easy driving distance for me! That seems to never happen with conferences. Too bad New York is so expensive for this type of thing.

@jenuinecase and I will be looking at a place or 2 in the next couple weeks. Attempting to get something at a Casino to add to the fun factor.

Are you sure that that won't just be a distracting factor?

Wow, $870 Atlanta to Managua. That will be a no-go.

The couple we are looking at seem to have great Conference spaces. So we will see what I think when I see them in person. The other options are really close to the casinos. And if you want to cross the bridge (which you can do on foot) you can explore the Canadian side too.

Liquor and wh...... oh an IT conference!

Niagara falls both sides has a bit to do so there should a lots of options. No Touches sorry to say.
-
What about the other direction? Instead of the Niagara region, what about the Finger Lakes region? Watkins Glen, Geneva, Ithaca.... all great options. A venue out in the country around there might work. Harder for flights but only so far from Rochester or Syracuse and would have the interest of being in the wine region.

The problem with NF is that all of the good stuff is on the Canadian side adding all of the international complications and tons of Canadian specific ones and raising the cost.

I know there are a few conference centers in that region. It would be harder to fly too that's for sure. Although the Binghamton Airport is awesome.

Well here's the rub there. If we do it in Wine Country there are some great venues but you are all stuck there all the time (bussing and logistics for a small conference would be a nightmare) so no going out to a bar and drinking the night away. And the venues will only server till about 11pm. So it would be boring at night. But gorgeous place to do it.

I've actually picked people up there before.
-
Flights are another issue (getting there is easy) but getting to the actual center would not be. Transportation adds up quickly. if I wanted to charge each person $1000 plus to attend I could make it happen but... no one wants to have a huge cost for a conference just cause of transportation logistics.

Isn't that ideal? A shortcoming of other conferences that we want to improve on? The bar crawl is a fun idea, but a closed venue that will run a bar for us would be WAY better. Or that lets us run one. That way we control the loud music, the random locals hoping in, people getting loss, keep everyone safe, make it better for people to actually network, etc.

any idea what time of year?
