It can often be difficult to ascertain the exact nature of a RAID product, especially those that are integrated into a motherboard. The extent to which the hardware or software nature of the array can be hidden by a BIOS, chipset or integrated drivers in an OS is pretty extreme. Intel has a reputation for making highly problematic FakeRAID system and hiding them especially well - aided by a loyal following of users who often jump into discussions and attempt to redirect the discussion to make it look unreasonable that Intel does this.
Follow a discussion on the S3200SH at Spiceworks we attempted to determine why a dual disk failure caused an array to fail and to take down a server when a properly working RAID array should have protected the system. According to the research and testing that was able to be done, it appears that the S3200SH is using motherboard-based FakeRAID. This site (in German) confirms that we are not the only ones to have come to this conclusion.
Until further research comes to light, the Intel S3200SH appears to be using chipset / FakeRAID and does not have any hardware handling its RAID outside of displaying and changing the configuration via the BIOS interface.
