Proper way to remove AD Sync from Office 365

What's the proper way to disable and remove the AD/Azure sync from the office 365 account. I want to remove it from my domain but keep the password, login and email as it is now (and not lose my mailbox or data). Didn't know if there's anything special you need to do to make sure it's fully removed or not.

If it is purely the sync option, I believe you can simply remove it. Since it is a sync, everything will be left as it is now.
