    Windows 8 app install permission issue

      Hi all

      Facing a strange issue on my Windows 8. Fresh installed Windows 8, upgraded to 8.1 via store, joined to AD, logged in as domain user who is also member of local Admin.

      Issue:
      It all started with the downloads folder. Any software downloaded to my downlods folder C:\Users\amrh1\Downloads, when i try to execute, I get below error.Capture.PNG

      Managed to install all apps by right click- run as admin to bypass this. Dropbox doesn't work like that, it has to be installed as the current user to get it properly installed, and so cant install it from downloads folder. I moved that file to desktop and when double clicked, the installation starts and then gives me another error.

      Ran out of solutions. Anyone faced such issues? Really needs Dropbox as it has my 1password keychain! 😞 Can't work without my passwords 🙂

          I am still facing issues on my Win8, and its killing me now!

          Downloads folder never works for any executables. The work around I did was to download files to Desktop and install it from there. Today I needed to install Sonicwall VPN client to connect to one of our clients datacenter, as usual moved the file to desktop and tried running the setup.

            Found workaround for that too, its a Win 32 Cabinet Self Extractor file, so I assume its not able to extract the file and run the setup. Used 7-zip to extract the cab files manually and executed the .msi file inside that from the Desktop folder and it worked. Downloads folder still doesn't work. But I really need to find a permanent solution for this. Would really need some help on this guys.

              7zip to the rescue when the OS doesn't work on its own 🙂

                You don't have any software restriction policies at play, do you?

                  This machine is part of our parent company's domain which I am not administering. What I got from their team is it might be due to SEP policies! Even though I disabled SEP on my machine, it still is the same issue. I am member of local admin group as well.
