@brianlittlejohn I actually have a Vizio smart TV but I use a Roku anyway because it runs so much better and is compatible with everything I use

I avoid buying smart tv's... The UI of Roku's or AppleTV is superior to the crap built into the tvs
We have a smart TV but also don't use it. We have Apple TV and a Quantum Byte connected to it.

yeah I have no desire to have a live mic in my house streaming to some unknown 3rd party. It would be bad enough if it was streaming to Samsung, but their EULA indicates it can be sent to whomever they want.

Unfortunately it is almost impossible to find a "dumb" tv now.... I guess the only thing to do is just not hook it up to the network.

Network is not needed... Hook up TV, set remote to HDMI-1, and add Roku, lol.

This is what I do. To make matters better - I don't use the remotes that came with that equipment either. I use a Logitech Harmony remote.
and all of the boxes are inside a cabinet, muffling anything they do hear. -
@Dashrender I like my harmony remote a lot!

With so many devices moving to radio, I was concerned that infrared wouldn't be an option anymore. I'm glad to see Roku still including an infrared port - can't recall if the Amazon TV does or not.
-
Does the harmony remote allow you to plug in headphones to it if someone in your place is sleeping? That was my main reason for wanting the Roku remote specifically.

Haven't looked at newer models, mine is almost 7 years old. But I imagine not.

Don't think so, no visible IR eye on it.

One of the best quotes I have ever seen from a coach in any sport:
"As great as today feels… we’re five weeks behind the other teams for the 2017 season” -Bill Belichick.

If you know anyone with pets, make sure that they see this. We went through this ordeal with our baby Oreo when the rat poison was found long ago.
-
@scottalanmiller That is a really sad article

Wow - this story coming after you hear that so many states are having a hard time getting those drugs for executions... WTH?
-
My question is how does this happen by accident? That's such a specific thing that is designed to kill. There had to be ill-intent right?

Why would someone think accident? Ten years ago when this happened last time, it was rat poison and it turned out that the Chinese rice suppliers were adding rat poison because it was a protein and the government only checked protein content of the food, not if it has rat poison in it. So they got top dollar for poisoned food because it was "high in protein." Thankfully China executed the guy who thought of that scheme, but until a lot of animals and people had been poisoned in the US, including my dog.
