Only USB 3.0 Devices Fully Detected
-
I have a Windows 8.1 (the WinBook I mentioned in another post) tablet that actually has a USB 3.0 (full) port. It reads and detects everything I put in it. But I noticed with USB 2.0 devices, I don't get the "tone" when I plug it in and it doesn't automatically pop up Windows Explorer, especially if it is a Jump Drive. If I plug in a USB 3.0 jump drive, I get the tone and it bring up Windows Explorer.
It will write and use the USB 2.0 devices fine but not fully detect it. This is quite important in my attempt to create a recovery drive for Windows 8.1 on a USB 2.0 jump drive. The Recovery Drive Wizard will not detect the drive but it will a 3.0 drive. My quandary is that I don't want to use my 3.0 jump drives as they are 128GB...I have a 16GB 2.0 drive I want to use for recovery.
So, anyone else seen this and if so, can it be remedied?

Is there a yellow bang in your device manager? Perhaps a driver is missing or corrupt?

Nope nothing there...in fact, for kicks, I am used my Micro USB to Full USB adapter and bam, it recognized it. Created a recovery USB drive that way...it does boot off the USB 3.0 port for recovery too...so odd.

@Dashrender review this post before making a recovery drive and for sure before putting Windows 10 on this device...

Upgrade your motherboard firmware if possible.

Which may be an issue of having a "cheap" tablet...not much support...I did boot off of the USB recovery drive to see if it would start a recovery...it did but touch screen wasn't responding...go figure...

is there only the one USB port on it? I wonder if you can use a USB hub so you can boot from a stick, and still have a USB keyboard/mouse

One Full USB, one MicroUSB and I have a Micro to FULL USB adapter I can try a hub on for seeing if a install works...just wondering about the touchscreen drivers if I go to 10...I guess I COULD do an UPGRADE to 10 but rarely like upgrades...I like clean installs..

Give it a shot. You haven't had the tablet too long so you can't have too much data on it. Worse case scenario its back to Windows 8.1
